Summer movie season is just heating up. We’ve already seen “Thor” delight and annoy with equal measure. “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” stinks up cinemas this weekend. I’m beginning to get nervous about “X-Men: First Class,” right around the corner, but mainly I’m holding out hope for “Green Lantern,” which could go either way at this point. Yahoo! Movies has debuted a trailer that got a lot of people excited. I’m trying to keep my hopes in check. Give it a look by clicking the image below or watch an embed after the jump.

‘The Adventures of Tintin’ teaser trailer
So, Steven Spielberg’s “The Adventures of Tintin” has a lot of people excited. I can’t summon that kind of enthusiasm for some reason. I’m not getting that event-of-the-year vibe others seem to be getting, but this just-released teaser trailer (courtesy of Apple) is enough to at least pique the interest. Check it out by clicking the image below or watch an embed after the jump.

‘Straw Dogs’ trailer
Some call the idea of remaking Sam Peckinpah’s “Straw Dogs” sacrilege. Others understand the film is hardly untouchable. Whatever your take, Rod Lurie’s re-imagining in the bayou (held up due to ratings issues, among other things) is finally on the way, dropping in September. Yahoo! Movies dropped the trailer recently. Check it out by clicking the image below or check out an embed after the jump.

‘Melancholia’ trailer
I’m continuing my 2011 resolution of not watching trailers for films I’m really looking forward to, but for the less ascetic among you, here’s our first glimpse of Lars von Trier’s latest, which will doubtless turn up in next month’s Cannes lineup. As many of you know, I’m always in the tank for von Trier — I was firmly on the “pro” side of the “Antichrist” debate two years ago — and with that fascinatingly eclectic cast on board, including a second go-round for Charlotte Gainsbourg, I scarcely need to see any footage to put this atop my “most anticipated” list. Click on the image below to watch it at the film’s official website, or check out the embed after the jump.

‘Meek’s Cutoff’ trailer
If you’re feeling smothered by the whole Oscar rigmarole and can’t wait to start talking about some fresh movies, this trailer couldn’t have landed at a more welcome time. Of course, “fresh” is a relative term — it’s nearly six months since I was wowed by Kelly Reichardt’s studied, painterly Oregon Trail western (reviewed here) at the Venice Film Festival, which ultimately took the #2 spot in my Best of 2010 list. For those who don’t get to beat the festival track, however, the film hits screens in April.

‘X-Men: First Class’ trailer
A bit of a diversion from the Oscar scene, though not really, seeing as Jennifer Lawrence stars (and James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are surely not far away from their first nomination). But Fox has debuted the “X-Men: First Class” trailer via the film’s Facebook page and, if you’ve been online this afternoon at all, you’ve probably already seen it. I’m not as amped for the film as most, but the trailer certainly does no harm. If anything I’m intrigued by the potential for sparks to fly between McAvoy (as Charles “Professor X” Xavier) and Fassbender (as Erik “Magneto” Lehnsherr). We’ll see this summer. ‘In a Better World’ trailer
Following “Incendies” on Tuesday, we have another trailer today for a Best Foreign Language Film nominee seeing a 2011 domestic release: Susanne Bier’s “In a Better World” (which also won the Golden Globe). I’ll get into the film more in-depth when the Oscar Guide makes its way to the category, but for now, I have to say it’s a stirring, brilliant movie, relevant and engrossing in the most human ways. Seek it out when it comes to a theater near you. Click on the image below to see the trailer, via Yahoo! Movies, or watch an embed after the jump.

‘Cold Weather’ trailer
Here’s a welcome breath of fresh air amid the oppressive mechanics of Oscar season. Some of you might remember that my personal Top 10 of 2010 featured a few films only hitting US theaters this year — and here’s the first of them. Aaron Katz’s “Cold Weather,” a bracing fusion of gentle indie shuffle and playful noir leanings, opens on Friday, and I implore you to take a chance on it. Apple has a shiny new trailer that does a neat job of reflecting the film’s brittle atmospheric charms, if not its cockeyed humor. (It also offers a taste of the year’s most strikingly original score.) Check it out by clicking on the image, or watch the embed after the cut.

‘Incendies’ trailer
While some pundits are assuming that Javier Bardem’s Best Actor nomination makes “Biutiful” the film to beat in the foreign-language category — despite the fact that recent Oscar history doesn’t favor the biggest name in the contest — my instincts tell me the real race is between Susanne Bier’s “In a Better World” and Denis Villeneuve’s “Incendies,” both of which Sony Pictures Classics will release in April. I haven’t caught up with either yet, though this new trailer for the latter is making me even more annoyed at myself for sleeping past an early-morning screening at Venice last year. ‘The Conspirator’ trailer
Robert Redford’s “The Conspirator” was kicking up some Oscar buzz before it bowed at Toronto this year. Lukewarm reactions and a March release sealed the deal that it wasn’t going to figure in the awards season. But it was picked up by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions and could be groomed for a run later this year. The trailer has been released via Yahoo! Movies. Have a look by clicking the image below or watch an embed after the jump.

‘Red State’ trailer
The trailer for Kevin Smith’s latest has been bouncing around the last few days as the writer/director has been on a bit of a public (via Twitter) diatribe for the better part of the holiday. It seems he won’t be doing any press for the film and will only exhibit it at Sundance during public screenings. Do what you want. I’m all for it. And, frankly, the film looks like it could be something special. At the very least, it’s a lesson in what a teaser ought to be. Check it out via Smodcast by clicking the image below or watch an embed after the jump.

‘The Tree of Life’ trailer
It’s heeeeeeere. Honestly, I’m not sure I even want to watch this, so I’ll leave it to you guys to comment. Click on the image below to watch it at Apple, or check out the embed after the jump.

‘The Beaver’ trailer
Everyone has been wondering what will come of Jodie Foster’s “The Beaver” ever since Mel Gibson went flying off the rails earlier this year. The film is set for a Spring 2011 release and many in the know seemed to think Gibson could have been an awards play for his performance in the film amid other circumstances. The trailer has just been released via Apple, however, so we all finally get a look at what the troubled actor was up to. Check it out by clicking the image below or watch an embed after the jump..

‘Brighton Rock’ trailer
I’m not sure who at The Guardian called Rowan Joffe’s new adaptation of “Brighton Rock” a “masterpiece,” as this new trailer boasts they did — I like to think they were talking about Graham Greene’s still blood-fresh source novel instead. From where I’m standing, Joffe’s directorial debut, which I reviewed out of the London Film Festival last month, stands as one of the year’s most bewildering disappointments: from its fundamental misread of the text to its tonally scattered ensemble to its egregiously aggressive score. Still, it apparently found enough fans to scoop four BIFA nominations, so there’s no accounting for taste. I’d almost lay money on a 2011 Oscar nod for Best Art Direction, too — that is, if a US distributor ever steps forward. It hits UK screens in February, just in time for BAFTA eligibility.

‘Cowboys & Aliens’ trailer
Yes, another trailer. I’ve been champing at the bit for “Cowboys & Aliens” since Jon Favreau decided to spring some sweet footage on the crowd at Comic-Con. The teaser poster hit yesterday, and today, we get a trailer (which is largely built around the set piece we saw in San Diego). Check it out via Yahoo! Movies by clicking the image below or watch an embed after the jump.

‘Green Lantern’ trailer
Hm. Something is bothering me about the trailer for “Green Lantern.” I liked the footage — however brief — at Comic-Con, but, well…the mask stinks. It just does. I like the idea of the suit being fully CG and always have but that damn mask. And there’s something Wishmaster-esque about Abin Sur’s makeup. Hey, I’ll be front row, center. But something’s nagging at me. Check out the trailer via Apple by clicking the image below or watch an embed after the jump.

First look at Jennifer Hudson in ‘Winnie’
Thanks to reader Nicolas Mancuso for tipping me off to this extended promo trailer for “Winnie,” Darrell James Roodt’s Winnie Mandela biopic with Jennifer Hudson in her first dramatic headlining role. I was sceptical of this project when it was announced a year ago, and I’m afraid the trailer has only exacerbated my fears. A big-name screen treatment was always likely to smooth over some of the uglier wrinkles in Ms. Mandela’s personal and political life, but this looks to be a shameless whitewash job: seeing this troubled, charismatic criminal (and arguable murderess) given the fawning violin treatment, complete with laudatory intertitles like “Her Courage” and “Her Strength,” leaves a very sour taste indeed. (More, and the embedded trailer, after the cut.)

‘Jane Eyre’ trailer
Hot on the heels of the lovely poster unveiled yesterday, we now have a trailer for Focus Features’ spring release “Jane Eyre.” The assembly of the trailer is a touch overegged, though I’m reserving judgment — at the very least, cinematographer Adriano Goldman seems to be having the same fun with light and weather that he did in the sunnier climes of Cary Fukunaga’s debut “Sin Nombre.” Meanwhile, I get the feeling that we can pencil in Michael O’Connor (a recent Oscar winner for “The Duchess”) as a repeat Best Costume Design nominee over 14 months from now. Click on the image to check out the trailer at Yahoo! Movies, or watch the embed after the cut.
