THE CONTENDERS: Best Animated Feature Film

9/19 Thoughts: It really doesn’t look like there will be enough contenders in this field for five nominees. There could be enough for four, though. The real question will be whether Disney can get enough respect for the hand-drawn work on “Winnie the Pooh,” I think.

Good bets:
1. “Rango” (Paramount Pictures)
2. “Kung Fu Panda 2” (DreamWorks Animation)

Other possibilities:
3. “The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn” (Paramount Pictures) — POTENTIALLY INELIGIBLE?
4. “Arthur Christmas” (Columbia Pictures)
5. “Rio” (20th Century Fox)
6. “Cars 2” (Walt Disney Pictures)
7. “Winnie the Pooh” (Walt Disney Pictures)
8. “Puss in Boots” (DreamWorks Animation)
9. “Happy Feet 2” (Warner Bros. Pictures) — POTENTIALLY INELIGIBLE?
10. “Gnomeo & Juliet” (Walt Disney Pictures)

Dark horses:
11. “Chico & Rita” (GKIDS)
12. “Hop” (Universal Pictures)
13. “Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil” (The Weinstein Company)
14. “The Smurfs” (Columbia Pictures)
15. “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked” (20th Century Fox)

The rest of the field:
“Alois Nebel” (no current U.S. distribution)
“A Cat in Paris” (GKIDS)
“The Lion of Judah” (Rocky Mountain Pictures)
“Mars Needs Moms” (Walt Disney Pictures) — POTENTIALLY INELIGIBLE?
“The Rabbi’s Cat” (no current US distribution)
“Tales of the Night” (no current US distribution)
