Robert Redford’s “The Conspirator” was kicking up some Oscar buzz before it bowed at Toronto this year. Lukewarm reactions and a March release sealed the deal that it wasn’t going to figure in the awards season. But it was picked up by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions and could be groomed for a run later this year. The trailer has been released via Yahoo! Movies. I didn’t realize who was in this except Robin Wright. I heard it was sort of a labored experience to sit through but the production design looks pretty snazzy.
looking kinda boring, Im waiting for speilberg to tell me about lincoln
americanrequiem, I agree. Also, Redford isn’t telling us about Lincoln. He’s telling us what no reputable historian believes: that Mary Surrat was innocent.
Jesus Christ, was that Justin Long at about the 1:50 mark? It was looking pretty interesting until I saw that, lol.
That’s a weird trailer. On one hand it looks like a solid effort with some decent production values, but most of the acting is soemhow off (mostly due to miscastings) and the cinematography looks strangely cheap. I just don’t get the sense that those people are those characters.
I think this is going to be a “miss” .. but …
I love McAvoy, Wright, and plenty others in the cast. The prod. values look very good. And I enjoy the occassional history biopic.
We’ll see.
I figured it would be somewhat interesting yet a little lackluster, yet the the film actually surprised me quite a bit. I thought Redford did a nice job spotlighting an often disregarded or forgotten moment in history. Newton Sigel was a great choice for DP, and when you’re watching it, you forget that the film actually has a rather star studded cast.
It’s definitely not a serious Oscar contender, yet it’s still a movie people should check out.
Damn shame that this looks dreadfully boring. This is one of my favorite stories in American History, but I don’t mind waiting for DDL and Spielberg to tell me a great Lincoln-connected story.
By the way everyone, this movie has virtually nothing to do with Lincoln. Don’t go into it expecting that.
It’s Robert Redford, people. A River Runs Through It, Quiz Show, The Horse Whisperer.
Take it to the bank- it will be quality.
Rule #1 for a period film is DON’T DO IT UNLESS THE FASHIONS ARE FABULOUS. And 1860s fashions are hideous. Everyone looks like they just showed up for their first costume fitting. Adding to the problem is the general attitude of the film: self-righteous hysteria.
It looks kind of bad, but I’m hoping for the best. However, I hate the digital look in period pieces.
one of the strangest assortment of actors in recent memory…can’t quite put my finger on it, but it just looks like they don’t quite “gel”.
love McAvoy, but his accent’s a little off…
also, this trailer bored me silly.

nice cinematography in some shots, though!
sorry for the accidental semi-double post, by the way… delete as you like! =]
I’m in, love McAvoy and Robin Wright is always fun to watch.

Agreed 100%, but what does misplaced DV have to do with this trailer? I thought the cinematography was consistently stunning, painterly even. Maybe I’m taking crazy-pills here, but I thought the recurring hot light in the windows, for instance was sort of reminiscent of John Alcott. I’m definitely not saying that the film will be even comparable with Barry Lyndon on any level, but surely it won’t be the visuals that are going to let us down.
Redford at the helm only inspires so much confidence, especially as a follow-up to Bagger Vance and Lions for Lambs, but I’m cautiously optimistic.
It looks Ok but the trailer wich has impressed me at most for next year oscar race was the Tree of Life by Tarrance Malick! I tell you The Movie, Director, Brad Pitt, Screenplay, Jessica Chastain, Cinematography could win! They all can win!
An excellent trailer and with such a superb cast and a truly great director, this will be a magnificent film!
Mr. Tumnus Goes to Washington. It’s a dog.
