‘X-Men: First Class’ trailer

A bit of a diversion from the Oscar scene, though not really, seeing as Jennifer Lawrence stars (and James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are surely not far away from their first nomination). But Fox has debuted the “X-Men: First Class” trailer via the film’s Facebook page and, if you’ve been online this afternoon at all, you’ve probably already seen it. I’m not as amped for the film as most, but the trailer certainly does no harm. If anything I’m intrigued by the potential for sparks to fly between McAvoy (as Charles “Professor X” Xavier) and Fassbender (as Erik “Magneto” Lehnsherr). We’ll see this summer. Check out the trailer by clicking the image below or watch an embed after the jump.

Looks as good as to be expected. Don’t get the group of characters they put together (not the original X-Men at all) but should at least be fun to watch.

I’m gonna take this opportunity to say that Jennifer Lawrence is HOT! And as an X-Men reader I must say everything in the trailer looks great! I’m totally psyched for this!

Michael – They put the characters in this movie that would fit in with the continuity from the first movies. The only thing they switched is making Alex Summers (Havok) Cyclop’s older brother instead of younger. Everything else fits fine.

Trailer looks amazing. I bet it’s going to be better than those other three comic book movies this summer.

This looks so good! I’m really excited for it. Fassbender, McAvoy, Lawrence, Jones, Bacon, etc…. All in an X-Men film? And Fassbender looks badass! I’m very excited for this.

yeah I guess there is no way to really re-organize the arrangement after the way they presented the characters from the original trilogy. I don’t know why they chose to do it that way, but they had to make due with what they were given. I wonder if they are going to remove the continuity from the Wolverine movie (which randomly introduced many of the mutants and the formation of the Xavier School for gifted youngsters – complete with a CG walking Patrick Stewart as a younger Professor X?)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited for the film, and not one of those psycho comic fans that gets all upset about the way the stories are ADAPTED to film, I just thought it was interesting that they chose to include the characters they did, and left out others (like Angel and Jean Grey.)

I never read the comics, just seen the movies and Magneto has been my favorite character all the long as the anti-hero. And with my favorite actor, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, I’m soooooooooooooooooo there and the trailer looks very promising!

Not bad, and it inspires confidence as a teaser should. Best case scenario, this could do for the “X-Men” franchise what J.J. Abrams did for “Star Trek”.

    This looks pretty damn good.

OT: Does anyone know the music in the trailer?

    Fassbender is just badass!

    Looks great. Vaughn has talent.

Hoping he does a follow-up to Layer Cake someday.

If you can say Jennifer Lawrence is hot, then let me add that there are no two actors working today that I crush on more than James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.
And yet, I just can’t see me going to this movie. I seriously couldn’t make it past the first half hour of the first X-Men movie. Am I just missing something?

You’re missing nothing, the x-men movies have been uniformly pretty terrible in my book. Too many characters, way too little development…sadly this looks like more of the same. Wake me up when Green Lantern comes out, or better yet The Dark Knight Rises.

X-men was pretty good and X2 is still one of the best comic-book films of all time. But yeah, X3 and Wolverine were crap.

Looks decent. Like the director. Like the cast. I’m in.

With Vaughn directing and Singer producing, I have hopes for this. Not to mention that cast…

I like the period setting, and the cast is great. I’m optimistic (though I didn’t hate X3 like so many people seemed to).

People still care about X-men sequels?

@Afrika: The audience has dwindled a bit, but X-Men is a franchise that lends itself to having MANY sequels and spinoffs, I mean we still have Wolverine 2, Magneto, and Deadpool to look forward to!

Considering “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” made nearly $375 million worldwide, yes, people still care about “X-Men” sequels.

Wolverine made that much? wow! I must have been living under a rock then. I don’t see the appeal but to each his own I guess.

This to me is the most promising flick of comic book flicks this summer probably because we’ve seen these characters can be brought to the screen. It boasts an impressive cast, a competent director who can probably craft some interesting sequences, and a solid premise….though this isn’t entirely the original X-Men, but from what I understand their trying to make a trilogy of sorts so maybe that’s when Jean and Scott will appear. Doesn’t hurt that Bryan Singer is producing.

  21. Duncan Houst Avatar

Afrika: “Avatar” made $2.8 billion worldwide, and I still don’t see the appeal there. Audiences are largely driven by hype and spectacle. That’s how “2012” reached $770 million worldwide.

Decent cast and decent director. My only concern is the fact that the film did seem to get a bit rushed into prodcution at the last minute, but we’ll have to see how it turns out.
