‘Green Lantern’ trailer

Posted by · 12:52 pm · November 17th, 2010

Hm.  Something is bothering me about the trailer for “Green Lantern.” I liked the footage — however brief — at Comic-Con, but, well…the mask stinks.  It just does.  I like the idea of the suit being fully CG and always have but that damn mask.  And there’s something Wishmaster-esque about Abin Sur’s makeup.  Hey, I’ll be front row, center.  But something’s nagging at me.  Check out the trailer via Apple by clicking the image below or watch an embed after the jump.

The suit and especially the mask does not look right at all. They should have done a suit like was done in Spider-man. It looked great in those films… on the fence about this movie, I know I will see it, but it is not high on my list.

Keep in mind there will likely be more tweaking of the CGI between now and the movie’s release.

This looks like it is purely for 12 year olds.

eeeehhhhhhh… I really want to see this, but I don’t like this trailer at all. It just looks real goofy. I like the design of the suit though, even the mask! But nan they made the movie look really dumb here!

That shot looks too similar to the blue-flame intro of The Dark Knight.

This is supposed to be DC Entertainment’s first volley into the shared movie universe (Angela Bassett plays Dr. Amanda Waller who is featured prominently in the DC world, Iron Man’s Agent Coulson if you will).

That trailer didn’t work for me at all. I know I shouldn’t judge it based on shoddy incomplete FX but it is what it is.

    Loyal,

I’m pretty sure it isn’t going to be a Marvel-style shared universe thing. I’m pretty sure somebody – was it Kevin Feige? – mentioned that they wouldn’t be doing that. So Dr. Amanda Waller probably won’t show up in the other movies, and if she does, it isn’t certain that Bassett would play her in the other movies.

Though I’m not sure about that. I could be wrong, I’m going by memory and haven’t done the research.

The CGI on Reynolds looks pretty bad right now (especially the mask). Definitely a cool concept, but I just don’t see it playing out right now.

Other problem is the practical effects, ie, the makeup. Very heavy, rubbery, and cartoony. I just don’t see the colorful, intergalactic characters of the Green Lantern universe translating to live action that well.

It probably wasn’t Kevin Feige commenting on DC since he’s the president of Marvel Studios. Maybe you’re thinking of Diane Nelson and her statements about the Justice League film.

In any case, the inclusion of Wallace was pretty deliberate. Obviously Flash and Wonder Woman and Superman are all still very early on in the process. But it would be quite shocking if the films didn’t intertwine, even on the most basic of levels.

Wow, the comments on here reflect the comments on DeadlineHollywood, but more articulate with a lot less venom.

I’m glad i’m not the only one who thinks this doesn’t look good. And that CGI alien at 1:50 looks dreadfully done.

Loyal, Geoff Johns said that they are focusing on each of their characters separately. He has also stated that you wont see characters from different comic books popping up in each other’s movies. Nolan has also been vocal that the characters’ worlds don’t mesh together. In his version of Batman, characters like Green Lantern and Wonderwoman simply wouldn’t exist.
(I, for one, completely agree that they should keep their characters separate. I think trying to include too many different characters killed Iron Man 2).

I can honestly say that I’m more excited about The Green Hornet, which looks like tons of fun. I respect Martin Campbell but I think that not so much the suit as all other CGI doesn’t look that good.

It looks to me like the DC people aren’t trying to make as serious or even as good of a movie as either of the Batman movies. DC had a chance to expand on having what is mainly considered the best superhero franchise in the past decade. They should have really tried to make at least an attempt at making a great movie; like Inception, Nolan attempted to make a great movie but came up short. The best that this movie is going to be is an enjoyable extremely forgettable movie, that will still make a huge profit.

Speaking of Green things, the Green Hornet trailer also looked terrible. All the jokes fell flat for me and this doesn’t look any better
