OSCAR PREDICTION CHARTS — August 31, 2009

NUTSHELL: Lots of arbitrary shifting and sliding on the tech charts this week, but we really can’t be too sure until the industry starts to get a load of some of this stuff. “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” is seen as a potential across-the-board candidate from the films already in release, while Michael Mann’s “Public Enemies” has taken a few more tumbles as the film just failed to catch on in any way this summer. “Nine” is still expected to be the big crafts giant and, if it delivers, “Amelia” could join it. Meanwhile, Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds,” with its star-studded crew, could certainly show up in more than a few places.

Column: “Take a deep breath…”
