‘In a Better World’ trailer

Following “Incendies” on Tuesday, we have another trailer today for a Best Foreign Language Film nominee seeing a 2011 domestic release: Susanne Bier’s “In a Better World” (which also won the Golden Globe).  I’ll get into the film more in-depth when the Oscar Guide makes its way to the category, but for now, I have to say it’s a stirring, brilliant movie, relevant and engrossing in the most human ways.  Seek it out when it comes to a theater near you.  Click on the image below to see the trailer, via Yahoo! Movies, or watch an embed after the jump.

It looks interesting; I hope it shows up in Montréal in the near future. I loved Bier’s “After the Wedding,” so I would want to see this one as well.

The moment it won the Golden Globe – an organisation far likelier to award a more known title like “Biutiful” – I figured it was winning the Oscar, too. And after looking at the trailer it has so much that they’ll respond too. War! Children! Even it’s title is the sort of name you’d expect to triumph in this category.

It does look good though and if it does win it’ll be great to see Susanne Bier up there accepting an Oscar.

Glenn, it wouldn’t look as good as seeing Denis Villeneuve accepting the Oscar for “Incendies!”

And anyway, “Biutiful” has been getting only so-so reviews. The critics have been loving Bardem, but they’ve been saying the film is too long and not that well done.

I totally agree with your assessment, Kris. It would be great to see Bier win so more people see this movie. I ditched Meek’s Cutoff to see this in Toronto last September and was glad I did. I was impressed with the unsentimentality of the child actors.

Bill, well, I’ve only seen “Polytechnique” of Villeneuve’s films (none of which have been released in Australia) and I didn’t care for it so I’m on team Bier in that regard, a woman who hasn’t made a dud film yet from what I’ve seen.

I think I’ll skip that second viewing of The King’s Speech next week and see this one instead.
