A vast improvement on the tonally misjudged first effort, though it gives in to bombast halfway through. I wonder if it’ll be enough to sell this prickly package — it’s always hard to judge trailers when you’ve already seen the film at hand, particularly if said film didn’t really work for you anyway. Is this getting you in line?

‘Nowhere Boy’ trailer
Sam Taylor-Wood’s debut feature has its world premiere tonight as it closes out the London Film Festival. I’ll have a short take up for you later today, but for now, here’s the trailer. (I’ll say this much: Kristin Scott Thomas’s recent run of form remains unbroken.)

New ‘White Ribbon’ trailer
I’m about to head into an LFF press screening of what is possibly my most anticipated film of the year, Michael Haneke’s “The White Ribbon.” As if my excitement levels couldn’t be any higher, The Guardian points us to this exquisite new trailer for the film. (They’re claiming it’s a world exclusive, though Trailer Addict offers a near-identical one, embedded below.)
I sense it’s a film that will merit a full review, so I hope to cobble one together by end of play today. “Hope” being the operative word.

New ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ trailer
I should say something. I really should. But I’m speechless. In a very good way.
Let the wild rumpus start, indeed.

‘Funny People’ goes red band
Thanks to commenter AmericanRequiem for reminding me to post the new “Funny People” trailer. (Hey, I have to sleep sometime.) From where I’m standing, it’s a notable improvement on the previous trailer, not least because it’s considerably more tight-lipped about plot developments than that one was. Shame about that.
Interesting that this one seems to place more emphasis on the Seth Rogen character, who was pretty much just parsley on the side in the first one.

New ‘District 9’ trailer and poster
Expanding on the teaser that generated much excitement among genre aficionados a few months back, comes this more revealing trailer for South African Neill Blomkamp’s freshman feature “District 9,” produced in association with Peter Jackson.
Can’t say I’m as sold on the venture as others are — and the new trailer makes it look rather broader and less enigmatic than what we were originally led to expect — but I’m always up for seeing my hometown of Johannesburg show its sun-bleached colors on screen. Represent, Joeys. (Newish one-sheet after the cut.)

Stunning new ‘Broken Embraces’ trailer
The Guardian has exclusively debuted the brand new trailer for Pedro Almodovar’s “Broken Embraces,” and it’s a thing of considerable beauty.
Mixed reviews be damned — the oil-painting saturated color of Rodrigo Prieto’s lensing (which weirdly reminds me of Vittorio Storaro’s work on Bertolucci’s “The Spider’s Stratagem”), the cannily cool choice of Cat Power on the soundtrack, not to mention the stylistics of Penelope Cruz’s headlong dive into fetishized femme fatale territory, all have my mouth positively watering. I’ll be seeing the film later this month, and that day can’t come too soon.
The Guardian selfishly won’t let us embed the trailer, so watch it here. Now. We’ll post it here as soon as it becomes available.

‘The Road’ gets a trailer
Spooky. The minute I post my delayed Page to Screen discussion of the “The Road,” the film’s trailer finally pops up online. I’m going to try this tactic again in the future. Anyway, here it is.
As that first Esquire review warned us the other day, the marketers appear to have made the curious decision to sell this as a propulsive action piece. I’m not sure who they imagine will fall for that angle, but don’t panic just yet.

‘Quantum’ trailer debuts
Scoff if you must. But from where I’m standing, the new “Quantum of Solace” trailer pretty much ticks all the boxes. Chases. Pretty girls. Explosions. Hot cars. Hot cars exploding. Daniel Craig squinting moodily. Mathieu Amalric hamming it up in a tux. What’s not to like? Count me in.
Or watch it here for a prettier picture.
