I’m not all that psyched for Disney’s “TRON Legacy,” but even I’ll admit that the final one-sheet for the film is pretty damn nifty. If it strikes you as familiar, that’s because it craftily mirrors the poster art of the original film. Check out the full image after the jump.
You know the drill. We got a fluffy trailer. Then we got a gritty trailer. Now we get a poster. The one-sheet for “The Fighter” was making the rounds yesterday but I held out for a high-res version, which you can check out for yourself after the jump.
Shana Feste’s “Country Strong” is, along with “Burlesque” and “Nowhere Boy,” one three “musicals” up for consideration in the HFPA’s comedy/musical category. Perhaps it will be good for an original song nomination, or maybe Gwyneth Paltrow will be impressive enough to find her way through a tough lead actress field. We’ll know soon enough. Fancy this timing, I’ll finally be getting around to “I Live You Phillip Morris” later this afternoon. Today, via Entertainment Weekly’s Pop Watch blog, we get our first look at the poster. Yesterday we got a look at an extended trailer for “127 Hours.” There was a poster bouncing around but I decided to hold out for a high res image, and that’s what we got today. I haven’t seen “Welcome to the Rileys,” which opened at Sundance earlier this year and was a part of the downward spiraling Apparition stable before being shifted over to Samuel Goldwyn Films. Starring James Gandolfini and Kristen Stewart, as well as Melissa Leo (quite busy this year), the film may or may not have an impact this season. How’s that for insight? It hits theaters October 29. Andrew Jarecki’s “All Good Things” has been patiently waiting a release for quite a while now. I heard some great things about Kirsten Dunst last year but all eyes may be on Ryan Gosling (who is also pitch-perfect in “Blue Valentine,” which I finally saw last night — more later). I’ll be seeing Jarecki’s film next week, but today we get a look at the poster courtesy of Vulture. Check out the full image after the jump.
I know there are a lot of “Moon” fans and collector types among you, so I thought this worth mention. The great British design studio All City, who dreamed up the justly famous poster for Duncan Jones’s sci-fi debut, have launched a new series of limited edition Redrawn poster concepts for some of their most famous titles of recent years — all of them available to purchase.
The striking sketch-based prints are all eminently frameable: this rejigged take on the “Moon” poster appears to be the most popular, but I’m just as keen on what they’ve done with the likes of “Control,” “Let the Right One In” and “Spirited Away.” At around $120 to $240 a pop, they’re not quite bargainous, but should age pretty nicely. Yes, as usual when it comes to a “For Colored Girls” post, we’re all playing wait and see on Tyler Perry’s latest. Maybe it’s an awards contender (I hear Kimberly Elise gives the stand-out performance), maybe it’s not. The trailer was spiffy, and there was a set of character posters that was just as fetching. A mesmerizing teaser trailer for the Coen brothers’ “True Grit” hit the web Monday, ratcheting up the anticipation further. Today Paramount has offered us an exclusive first look at the teaser poster for the film, a striking, minimalist, wanted poster-esque assemblage that looks like it would make a handsome book cover. There will be a secondary poster down the line that I imagine will be more traditional. Have a look at the full image after the jump.
The trailer for Sony’s “The Tourist” hit a few weeks ago and revealed what looks to be a frothy romp with Johnny Depp giving fun performance. Today we get a look at the poster for the film, which, I’m sorry to see, is latching on to a recent trend of boxed in imagery framed by a solid color. Where’s the creativity? Ugh. Honestly, I’m not crazy about the execution in this case, but I’m always pleased to see poster designers trying illustrative concepts ahead of lazy photographic floating-head templates. I imagine Sony Pictures Classics will dream up something quite different for the US market. Incidentally, anybody looking to this poster for clues as to how the actors are being classified will come up empty — Jim Broadbent, Ruth Sheen and prime awards hopeful Lesley Manville are alphabetically billed as co-leads, which is arguably how it should be. I assume Warner Bros. will start screening Clint Eastwood’s “Hereafter” (which opens a month from today) to the Los Angeles crowd when their good and ready. Still waiting (and still intrigued, despite some less-than-stellar early reviews). Reaction out of Toronto was ultimately quite split, you’ll recall. We’re all still waiting to see what kind of an effort Edward Zwick’s “Love & Other Drugs” might be. From the trailers we’ve seen so far, it looks like a frothy comedy with dramatic stylings. Early word on Anne Hathaway has been positive throughout the year. A new poster has been released and it’s properly suggestive, I suppose. It’s actually been out there for a week or so now, but I’ve been waiting for a higher quality image. Have a look after the jump and tells us what you think.
One of the films I’m very much looking forward to this year is Alex Gibney’s “Clinet 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer.” I imagine, given Spitzer’s appearance in “Inside Job” and that film’s brief detailing of Wall Street types’ obsession with prostitutes, it could dovetail nicely with Charles Ferguson’s study. And as noted plenty of times, it’s looking like a hell of a year for documentary features. Magnolia Pictures will release the film November 5 and today, courtesy of Vulture, we get a look at the poster. Check out the full image after the jump.
I’ve had my eye on Paul Haggis’s “The Next Three Days” for a few months. It’s probably not much of an awards play for Lionsgate, though the studio doesn’t have a lot to work with (unless Tyler Perry officially joins the party). I don’t think we featured the trailer when it dropped a few weeks ago, but it certainly looks like a nice star role for Russell Crowe. The poster hit today. Check it out in full after the jump.

I’m getting a look at Randall Wallace’s “Secretariat” tonight. It may or may not be an awards play for Diane Lane. I’ve heard both sides of the argument.
