Yesterday we featured the trailer for official Toronto selection “Beautiful Boy,” which could be an acting play in the awards season for stars Michael Sheen and Maria Bello.  Today we get a look at the poster, which has Sheen front and center.  Check out the full image after the jump.

As a 2008 Virginia Tech grad, I’m sitting this one out. I imagine it could be good, though.

That looks depressing. Does the film already have a U.S. distributor?

Suzanne: One of my best friends was a VT grad that same year. I was there a week after the shooting. Fully understand.

    m1: Not yet.

It will be nice to see Sheen play someone other than Tony Blair, but like Suzanne I might sit this out. I hope it can bring catharsis to the people who have gone through this.

Never one to shy away from tough subject matter, I’m definitely intrigued about Beautiful Boy. The trailer may have been *meh*, but the film within seems promising. Gallner is a talented young actor, so I hope he gets critical praise. And it would be interesting to see if this brings Bello and/or Sheen any traction. (Hoping for both is probably a long-shot, though.) Hopefully it acquires a distributor at TIFF and snags a late November or so release, because I would NOT want it to be released in the same year as We Need to Talk About Kevin. (2011 most anticipated!) Yikes.

After “Elephant”, “2:37” and “Polytechnique” I’m at least glad it’s taking a different angle on the school shooting story, but… really, what else is there to say? Can we put these films to bed now?
