NSFC goes with ‘Bashir’ and ‘Happy’ in a big way

Waltz with BashirThis is just like the National Society of Film Critics.  Sorry, just coming around to this (football has taken some precedence this afternoon as I unwind post-vacation).  “Waltz with Bashir” may have taken the top prize, but “Happy-Go-Lucky” was the clear favorite.  Perhaps added fuel to the film’s Oscar fire.  Lone director nomination?  Hmmm…

I’d be annoyed if Mike Leigh became the stock “5th director” every time he makes a damn movie. There are many more deserving directors this year. I’m really rooting for Aronfosky.

    It’s happened…once.

I must say I’m still left a little cold by “Bashir,” but I applaud the NSFC (as usual) for sticking their necks out.

The “Happy-Go-Lucky” love is great to see — can the Academy really not nominate Sally Hawkins when she’s taken the three top critics’ awards? Is there a precedent for that? I don’t have my research resources to hand right now, but I don’t think so.

And I gotta disagree, Brian, but to each his own.

Damn, I think that somehow Nolan is vulnerable when TDK gets a BP nod and a director needs to “go” instead of Leigh. I believe it will happen. But what I’m more interested in is if Eddie Marsan is actually able to make the cut, hell he could even win it when the momentum is his. Very interesting category BD and SA have become.

And Penn again — LA, NY and the NYSFC — Oscar next? Hugely acclaimed performance joins only a few select others.

HGL is a 7 or 7.5/10 for me, i liked and hawkins and marsan were great and both deserve nominations but HGL is ”ok” compared to TDK.

thank god somebody is noticing Marsan…i still hope he can make it in, maybe this will help, maybe it won’t, but he sure deserves it over much of the overrated supporting actors from 2008….

BTW what are the odds of Waltz being nominated for Best Animated, Docu and Foreign all at the same time?

Okay, seems like Leonard Klady had the same hopes I did:

Wouldn’t it have been just something?

No win for DArk Knight??? Ledger and Pfister should win. The cinematography in TDK and the supporting actor are head and shoulders above the rest. Have these people been living under a rock?
