I want to say it’s been a truly wonderful season because of this community. No matter how much I’ve moaned about the length of the circuit or my eventual crash in endurance, I never tire of getting up every day and delighting in the particulars of the season with like-minded friends, so thank you.
For now, the floor is yours. I’m hosting the annual Casa de Tapley Oscar fiesta, so I won’t be around these parts. Use this space to dish the red carpet, talk about the show, cheer/bitch about the winners, etc. I’ll likely have some comments throughout the night on Twitter if you’d like to follow me there. And be sure you lock in your pool predictions at Awards Picks by 7:59pm EST. Happy Oscars!

I feel bad for UITA. Really was the only recognition they were bound to get tonight.
I’m so happy for Mr. Fletcher! I totally saw that one coming.
Some people hate to say I told you so. Not me. I told y’all “Watch out for Precious in Adapted Screenplay.” So there. BAM!
So do we have to start considering a Precious Best Picture upset? I think a Sidibe win would make it very likely.
How`s this an upset? Precious got Editing nom and Up In the Air (which was expected to get it) didn`t. That pointed out at Precious support within AMPAS over Up In the Air.
What the fuck was that? They all just look at them?
Precious had an awful screenplay too…
5/10 so far. I need a miracle, guys.
Oh they so doing this in order how they finish……..
Mo`nique! Standing ovation! Awesome. ha,ha, Tarantino upsetter, what`s-his-face, didn`t get any and there were pissed faces. Backlash, baby.
Mo’nique looks gorgeous. Also looking like the Best Picture nominees are presented in ascending order of ballot preference. I’m enjoying the show quite a bit, upsets (or at least surprises) galore so far.
That was a seriously tacky speech. It’s about the performance, not politics? Full of yourself much?
Is Monique’s outfit and hair in salute to Hattie McDaniel? If I remember correctly, her look was awful similar. I’ve heard she’s infatuated with her.
top five coming up next!
@hero
wells, is that you?
Monique definitely had a bone to pick and it showed, but I can’t blame her. The whisper campaign about her was unfair and pretty damn cynical, and it clearly got to her. She should have ignored it, but, it’s her Oscar speech (and now, her Oscar).
@Hero “It’s about the performance, not politics? ”
Funny,eh, that she who was ranting against Oscars being too political with campaigning and what not is now going down the “it`s all about performance” path.
What order are they presenting the BP nominees in?
Up in the air must of jump ahead with 2 and 3 place votes…….
Aaron–nope.
Ninja–it’s really the slap in the face to the other nominees that pisses me off.
Mike C–It’s random, no matter what anyone here says. ;) The producers may have guessed what order things came out on the ballots, but there’s no way the accountants told them what order the votes came out in.
I’m glad Sandy Powell gave a little slap to the Academy. I’m sick of hoop skirts winning every year.
I think from 10-1
to recap
10. The Blind Slide
9. District 9
8. Up
7. Serious Man
6. An Eduction
5. Precious…..
So what will be Avatar and it money. the hurt locker stampeded. Havary pulling a mircle for Bastards, or did the old people see the name Ivan Reitman on a ballot and go hog wild..Stay tuned..
That Sandy Powell is what us gays call fierce!
Why are twilight actors presenting horror? Twilight is a horror? @_@
How crazy would it be if Precious just keeps winning and winning and then against all odds wins Best Picture?
@74
Awesome closure to a boring ceremony.
Anyways, there won`t be any major upsets unless Bullock doesn`t win Actress. Some movie nobody saw will win, Dude will win, Bigelow will win.
Okay that has to win an award for the most awkward cough ever.
Kristin Stewart knows how to keep it classy.
[HACK!]
And the boring sweep continues.
Oh Oh…The Dude better watch his back……..
Hurt Locker wins both sound categories.
The writing is on the wall.
And I gotta say, the one thing they’re doing brilliantly tonight is the montage clips for the actors and the pictures.
@ Ninja, in a way it is :)
If the Best Picture nominees are in order from 10-1, then the Precious Best Adapted Screenplay nod doesn’t quite make sense.
I liked Renner more than Bridges but I`ll be happy when Brudges wins just to see Locker loses something. What an overrated movie.
Both Sound categories and Screenplay. THL is on it way. When it wins Editing, I think we can officially call it and go to sleep.
I hear the Avatar people are thinking that e-mail gate help Hurt Locker and they getting blame for it………
Hey! I can see the Oscars now! Miss the first two hours. Cablevision and ABC in New York have come to their senses.
On the order: if it’s random, this seems silly. If not, this seems extremely odd, even if it does fit with the tacky “biggest reality show” thing.
This year’s Oscars is so somber & dry. This show is on life support! Chris138 , I agree , I miss Hugh Jackman. He brought so much needed energy, charisma , star power, and of course old school performance skills. It is amazing you have two hosts,Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin , and they can’t surpass or even equal Mr. Jackman. Also , I miss the humor & great eliminate of surprise the producers offered at the last Academy Awards. For example, Hugh bringing Anne Hathaway on stage to perform their “Nixon/Frost” number (one of the best Oscars moments ever) or the actors presenting to their fellow actors.
P.S. I felt sorry for Neil Patrick Harris. He is multi-talented but his material & his performance was so flat. It was so shocking because he was great hosting The Tony’s & The Emmy’s.
#85
That`s sour grapes. E-mail gate happened too close to due date so most voters sent their ballots or at least filled them. It couldn`t help HL or hurt Avatar. E-mails could, but not e-mail gate.
I hate when they vote louder for some over others.
clap not vote
James Taylor has always been sub-par and needs to be banned. What is wrong with playing Lennon’s original beauty over the montage?
Mr. Harris , trust me, you didn’t miss much !!
I thought that only the PwC accountants were supposed to know the results. If the Producers took a stab at guessing the order, then that’s kinda really tacky. Why they didn’t just go alphabetical is beyond me.
James D–The Beatles costs way too much money would be my guess.
We`ll know if BP presentation is preferencial ballot-related if Locker is presented the last. That would be a clear sign of #10 to #1 presentation.
You know the show is awful when they screwed the In Memoriam segment.
James Taylor is awesome in my book, but it felt kind of lame.
Worthington uses glasses. The more you know.
Break dancing to the Hurt Locker’s score.
Yeah, now I’ve seriously checked out.
I’m sorry…they got rid of Best Song for this.
