I want to say it’s been a truly wonderful season because of this community. No matter how much I’ve moaned about the length of the circuit or my eventual crash in endurance, I never tire of getting up every day and delighting in the particulars of the season with like-minded friends, so thank you.
For now, the floor is yours. I’m hosting the annual Casa de Tapley Oscar fiesta, so I won’t be around these parts. Use this space to dish the red carpet, talk about the show, cheer/bitch about the winners, etc. I’ll likely have some comments throughout the night on Twitter if you’d like to follow me there. And be sure you lock in your pool predictions at Awards Picks by 7:59pm EST. Happy Oscars!

Main hopes – The Hurt Locker wins Best Picture, Bigelow wins Director, anybody but Bullock wins Actress, and China’s Unnatural Disaster wins Doc Short.
Only ones I”m actively rooting for. Otherwise I’ll just be taking in the show.
Inglourious Basterds for Best Pic. I still think its possible.
Id love to participate in this during the show, but I have cablevision…..and live in jersey…..(sigh)
@Harmonica: I second your hopes.
Kris, when are u gonna give us your prediction for 2010/2011?
Kris, change your mind and do the year in advance. If you think about it, this later Oscar date makes it a little less daunting.
Lining the actors up, perhaps it’s just on the pre-show?
Arghh, I don’t have access to a TV :( anyone know where I can stream it? I just did a search but I’m not finding anything
@ Ed D.
I found this:
http://filmmakermagazine.com/news/2010/03/how-to-still-watch-the-oscars/
so for the tiebreaker, were we guessing on the telecast beginning at 8? or whenever it actually starts?
So….hows the show?
Never mind, thank god for convertor boxes.
Id hate to triple post, but the humor is pretty damn subpar.
Yeah, these two are not funny. George Clooney is a prick.
YAY CHRISTOPH YOU SEXY BITCH.
Up takes it. 2/2 so far.
Not that hard to do, Brian….
3/3 so far. I’m enjoying this year’s show!
Megan: Let me have my moment of glory ;-( Boo…
Anna is reporting that the next two oscars will have Ten noms for best picture…..
3/3 although they have been/will be easy.
I kind of miss Hugh Jackman as a host. I liked last year’s show, although this one is moving along pretty well so far.
This is painfully awkward feeling. You couldn’t cut the tension in the air with a knife.
Dammit! Quentin deserved it. I guess my upcoming set of predictions for an Avatar sweep will be wrong.
Hurt Locker for screenplay. Oh man. Fuck this. I have officially checked out.
AVATAR just won. They skipped it in the previews, and they always go alphabetically and show the winner last. They went from “The Blind Side” to “District 9” … you heard it here.
I wonder if Blindslide came in 10th and District 9 9th? If A Serious Man comes up next we will know………
I knew I should have changed from IB to THL. Dammit. I’m so screwed on my predictions.
so it wasnt my tv set, avatar was really skipped.
my brother says that maybe they are presenting the best picture montages in a ranked order, from 10-1?
Hurt Locker? As a film its enjoyable but its writing is very ordinary. Maybe im upset because now QT doesnt win an oscar every decade…..sigh….
I tell you want, the higher a Serious Man is possible goodnews for Bastards, since I’m going to guess that the people voting the Jewish Dark Comdey number 1 is likely putting the jewish reveage film number 2
The show is falling flat. Surprisingly, not for the reasons I thought, but its quite the bore.
Blah,. Hurt Locker`s boring sweep has started. Tarantino was robbed. But, hey, it`s good to learn something every day. Like that Hurt Locker apparently had a script. Didn`t know but thanks for enlightening me, AMPAS.
These shorts are kicking my ass.
Woah. Even during an emotional speech for a surprise winner, they cut the mic. Shankman and Mechanic are assholes.
I didn’t watch the Spirit Awards. Did Stiller steal this one like he did last year?
Shankman and Mechanic = Fail so far
I feel bad for those winners in the short film categories. They got cut off. And that woman also cut the other winner off during his speech. Rude.
hahahaha Ben Stiller…
yay, Star Trek wins something. Awesome movie,. much better than the Best Pucture winner, Locker something, oops, forgot what it was already.
Wow…I guess she was a producer or something, but that woman in purple kinda shit on the win of Music by Prudence. Bad form.
If they doing this in early I can’t belive a Serious Man was as high as 7th…
It seems more and more likely that the Best Picture nominees are being presented in the preferential ballot order. I’m a little sad that Up was so low but I can’t say that I’m surprised…
41
I was thinking the same thing.
In other news, my predictions (and Kris’s) just got shot to hell by the short films.
Well, I’m 5 for 8 so far. Could be worse.
Do you think 7th is enough votes to swing bastards way?
That is why In the Loop is Adapted? That is bullshit. Milk was based on a real person and got Original!
Precious? Wow. I will never get back above .500.
Precious wins, ha,ha, Best Editing nom said it all. Up In the Air was bound to lose this one.
Holy crap, Precious got Adapted Screenplay.
FINALLY, the night gets interesting.
Precious won Adapted Screenplay.
HOLY CRAP. MAJOR UPSET!
