I want to say it’s been a truly wonderful season because of this community. No matter how much I’ve moaned about the length of the circuit or my eventual crash in endurance, I never tire of getting up every day and delighting in the particulars of the season with like-minded friends, so thank you.
For now, the floor is yours. I’m hosting the annual Casa de Tapley Oscar fiesta, so I won’t be around these parts. Use this space to dish the red carpet, talk about the show, cheer/bitch about the winners, etc. I’ll likely have some comments throughout the night on Twitter if you’d like to follow me there. And be sure you lock in your pool predictions at Awards Picks by 7:59pm EST. Happy Oscars!

they can find time for pointless dance numbers but not for original song performances? wtf.
Jennifer Lopez desparately wants to win an Oscar , she is almost always at this award show. The dancing to the movie score maybe the highlight of the evening. I want Meryl to win!!
Not much huh!
Calm down with the order of the Best Picture Nominees. They’re simply sandwiching the little seen films between the blockbusters.
Break dance didn`t make sense with any of the scores.
Oh, and Giachino should`ve won for Star Trek. Up = overrated. But nice to see Locker lose again. :)
WTF is this dancing crap?
I’m calling it: WORST. OSCARS. EVER.
Bill Condon’s phone line is going to collapse tomorrow.
Giacchino FTW!
I didn’t like The Weary Kind as much as some, but I would much rather have the songs back then that dancing nonsense.
Neither dancing nor singing.Just read the names and get over it.
Fisher Stevens just won an Oscar? WHAT?
Well. This is pretty much sealed.
Ok. Hurt Locker not presented last.
Next year, Tyler Perry as Madea hosting the Oscar. Make it happen, Hollywood.
Kidding… Can you imagine?
Baldwin & Martin = FAIL.
Has anyone noticed ? That the normally charming actors, like Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper, Gerard Butler, Matt Damon, and George Clooney have no charisma whatsoever this evening. Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Robin Williams , and Robert Downey Jr. also lost their sense of humor this evening ( also their ability to improvise) . This show is just sucking the energy out of them.
I`ll wait for Actress because it could go either way and than I`ll tune out. Can`t stay for Locker producer`s smug faces. First and last time for them to win anything. Just wait and see.
I wouldn’t have been able to pick Tyler Perry out of a line up. I had thought they said Lee Daniels and was surprised how differently he was acting.
I can’t believe Fisher Stevens won an Oscar before Julianne Moore, Laura Linney or Glenn Close.
Reality is stranger than fiction.
I know everyone saw it coming, but it is still bullshit. The foreign language category needs gutting.
I’m sorry but this is a disgrace. A Prophet should have won.
At least Kathy Bates could pronounce Avatar…
Bad Blake was the role of a lifetime? I must have watched a different film.
Loved Farrell`s speech to Renner. Lol at playing Titanic score for Winslet entrance.
THE DUDE ABIDES! Finally!
Man, that thing lasted forever.
Ouch…. JC is going home empty handed and Avatar will only pick up three awards. Same as Benjamin Button, ouch.
Meh would have preferred Firth. But loved Bridges’ giggle during his speech.
Nice to see Jeff Bridges finally up on that stage with an Oscar. I’m quite surprised that Cameron hasn’t won anything. I’m glad The Hurt Locker is winning all these awards.
And I`m so annoyed by this HL vs Avatar crap. There`s a movie more deserving than both and it`s Ingorious Bastereds. I doubt that HL would sweep without the HL vs Avatar hoopla. Without it, it was just one of nominees and UITA was the frontrunner. With the arrival of Avatar and Cameron/Bigelow media frenzy, HL skyrocketed. **** that shit!
I was hoping they were smarter than this.
Sandra Bullock. Dammit!
Wow. I thought I had come to terms with Sandra winning but when Penn announced her name I was still utterly shocked.
Sandra`s a class act. She just paid tribute to Meryl.
Am I the only one who’s ok with Bullock’s win? I mean, I was pulling for Sidibe but I’m not exactly outraged by the outcome.
Bigelow is a stunning woman and deserves better than that sugartits who robbed Tarantino.
Well, that was rip-roaring fun.
GOOD NIGHT.
The Hurt Locker: 7 Oscars. Fait accompli.
Horrible show. Happy for THL. Good night.
Damn, did Tom Hanks have an appointment to keep or something?
Finally, in two days, all talk about Hurt Locker will stop. Forever. Good. Enough with this overrated movie. It got its win, it`ll be forgotten, its crew won`t get any more awards ever, lets move on.
I enjoyed the show, I don’t care about the complaints. It was too long, but otherwise, it got the job done and had moments of fun. Sure, there were bad jokes and some cringe-inducing segments, but it wouldn’t be the Oscars without them. Overall, a job well done. I couldn’t be happier The Hurt Locker won.
Yeah, that was certainly sudden, The Irishman.
I am content with the winners this year. The Hurt Locker is a great film, but not the best of the nominees. Bridges did a good job and got a Lifetime Achievement Award. Mo’Nique and Waltz were both deserving. The Cove and Up were exemplary.
Best Actress and Best Foreign Language Film were stupid, but this year was less disappointing than last year, so who cares?
@ ninja: You wish. This is one of the best winners to EVER win big at the Oscars. I couldn’t be more proud of Kathryn Bigelow and her well-deserved tremendous accomplishment!
Bigelow win is fine but not the rest. IB was much better movie. That script hack that wrote HL won`t be back in Oscar game any time soon.
Hurt Locker is yet another overrated movie that has zero timeless quality about itself. It won because it`s timely but it won`t be rememebered. Glad this is finally over so we won`t have to hear about it ever again.
God I had hoped Gabby or Meryl…or Carey..or Helen would win. I guess Best Actress was Best Personality this year.
“Hurt Locker is yet another overrated movie that has zero timeless quality about itself. It won because it`s timely but it won`t be rememebered”
I would say this is true about Up in the Air, but not The Hurt Locker. It is great and will be remembered.
Absolutely. This is the same crap that No Country for Old Men was getting when it won, and now it’s ranked as one of the best films of the DECADE. The Hurt Locker will certainly follow suit, mark my words.
It seems like the movie I want to win Best Pic only does so every 2 or 3 years, so I knew IB would never win–I cursed it by getting my way with Slumdog last year.
@141 “It is great and will be remembered.”
By 3 people who saw it.
I wouldn`t mind Bp win but Script win sent me over the edge. That was the most undeserved thing ever.
“By 3 people who saw it.”
And a lot more, you big whiner.
News flash: Inglourious Basterds didn’t deserve Original Screenplay anymore than The Hurt Locker did. It was A Serious Man that TRULY deserved the victory.
So many catty comments. One of the best movies of the year actually wins best pic, and still we have complaints? Grousing that the show was boring? What do y’all want from these people? The show was fine, the winners were fine–not all what I would have picked, but quite good enough. I’m happier than I was last year, that’s for sure.
P.S. Ninja, your attempt at humor is so transparent that it only causes your anti-THL attitude to make THL look even better.
Not that the hundreds of critics who place it on their year-best or even decade-best don’t accomplish that with ease regardless =).
“Can`t stay for Locker producer`s smug faces. First and last time for them to win anything. Just wait and see.”
History shows that most people who win an Oscar only win one. History also shows that it is incredibly hard to get multiple nominations in a career. So if Bigelow is never nominated again then it’ll hardly be a shock. It’s just common.
