I’m just now stumbling across this, but Yair Raveh over at Cinemascope has apparently come across a rundown of Sunday’s show. No real details other than the order of presented awards, which seems to list Best Supporting Actress and the screenplay fields as the first out of the gate. Supporting categories typically announce early on, but the screenplays tend to wait until the last act.
If the tip is legit, this would certainly be a change up. Best Supporting Actor isn’t presented until an hour and a half later, according to Raveh, and there are nearly 40 minutes in between the two short categories, which is interesting. Those sound categories everyone will be looking to for a barometer aren’t unveiled until the 7:30pm (PST) mark, and the In Memoriam segment looks to be the last montage before the four biggest awards of the night — again, all according to Raveh’s source.
Who knows if it’s legit, but anyone who has worked in live TV knows how quickly things can shift.

I don’t think Director will be announced before Actress & Actor, that just seems wrong.
Those seem interesting, except for Director like red_wine says. I know the Sound and Costumes are important, but most people don’t care.
Confused here. Are the Oscars not live?
Last year, the lineup list Yair uncovered was 100% correct, so I have no reason to doubt his list this year.
Of course, this year is the year of shaking things up so who knows.
From USAToday
“Without revealing specific details, the ceremony will have a narrative, unfolding like a play in which awards are given as part of the plot.”
Well the story must come first, so makes sense for them to present screenplay first.
Never heard of casting a supporting actress before writing a script, though. Well, not traditionally, let’s say.
I think they should mess with the American public and make Best Supporting Actor, which is what most average people are looking for anyways, right before Best Picture…oh, man. It would be quite humorous…
Wait, ten awards in the first hour? Sounds too good to be true.
Remember the time years ago when it was halfway through the show and suddenly Geoffrey Rush walked out to present Best Actress to Helen Hunt? That was the last time something like this really shocked me.
I’m fine with them not having Director straight before Picture. It breaks up two potential awards for Slumdog so that there’s a bit more suspense… I guess. I don’t know.
You’re right, Nigel. It’s better off breaking up potential Slumdog wins just to keep it interesting to the average viewer.
And Javier Bardem will not attend Oscars. Hmmm.
Can someone answer as to why this says 5 Eastern?
They don’t start until 8 out here.
Does anyone know when the medley of the nominated songs is on???
