Too bad it took a re-expansion to get there, though.  But woo-hoo!

Well, technically it was an expansion, not a rerelease. Fear not, Kris, we made it in one run!

I was just going to say the same thing as Hans. It was still in theaters when it added theaters, so it wasn’t a re-release.

Oh it was? Well, an asterisk nonetheless.

Heh, well to justify my comment, I looked it up just to see exactly how many theatres it was in at the time of the “re-expansion”.

    7. Seven theatres.

    Wasn’t Titanic ‘re-released’? Yeah, I thought so.

I looked it up on Box Office Mojo and The Dark Knight is the only movie in the Top 21 of All Time Worldwide to make more money in the United States than internationally.

    U.S.: $533 million
    Internationally: $467 million

You have to go to E.T. at #22 to get the next movie to make more in the U.S. than the rest of the world ($435 in the U.S.; $358 Internationally).
