Chicago crix join the ‘WALL-E’ wagon

I know we issued a moratorium on regional critics’ awards the other day, but the Chicago Film Critics Association is semi-significant, and we did report on their nominations, so in the interests of closure, here are the winners.

I must say, I’m starting to feel the heat for a “WALL-E” Best Picture nomination — could it displace “The Dark Knight” for the populist vote? I think so. Meanwhile, I’m really getting the feeling that Anne Hathaway could emerge as the Best Actress winner at the end of the day. I have no idea what would justify such an outcome, but that’s my hunch.

Of course, I had these inklings before I saw these winners — which aren”t that relevant anyway — but it chimes in neatly enough, so I thought I’d throw ’em out there.

Best Picture: “WALL-E”
Best Director: Danny Boyle, “Slumdog Millionaire”
Best Actor: Mickey Rourke, “The Wrestler”
Best Actress: Anne Hathaway, “Rachel Getting Married”
Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger, “The Dark Knight”
Best Supporting Actress: Kate Winslet, “The Reader”
Best Original Screenplay: Andrew Stanton and Jim Reardon, “WALL-E”
Best Adapted Screenplay: Simon Beaufoy, “Slumdog Millionaire”

    That’s awesome, great, magnificient!!!!
    GO WALL-E!!!
Now i really believe that Wall-e can get a nomination for best picture.
3 BEST PICTURE PRIZES ON CRITIC’S CIRCLES
Nº1 OF THE YEAR ON METACRITIC
    Nº 34 ON IMDB
TOP 10 ON AFI, NBR and BFCA.
It’s almost objetive to say that Wall-e is one of the 5 best pictures of the year.

As thrilled as I am at the thought of WALL-E being a Best Picture nominee, it would be bittersweet if it were to come at the expense of “The Dark Knight”. I guess I can’t have my cake and eat it too. If I had to choose, I think I may actually prefer TDK to get in, even though I think WALL-E is better, just because for Nolan’s achievement to go unrecognized by the Academy would be a bigger disappointment than for them not to nominate WALL-E (which is expected anyway).

mm that’s a very good thought.
I think that Dark Knight is a very good contender for this year and between Wall-E, TDK and Frost/Nixon will come the 2 final nominations, because Slumdog Millionaire, Milk and TCCOBB are locked nominations (for me).
Despite I love Wall-E, I have to recognize that Nolan is for me a genius as filmmaker and writer. And this year he deserves the nomination as director at least.
I’d love to see TDK and Wall-E being nominated, but it’s difficult considering the seriousness of the Academy.

Chicago abandoned the Knight? I didn’t see that coming at all.

    What a strange year.

    Brian: Very.

I would love WALL-E to be nommed, but I doubt it will be. But the Dark Knight snub is just…not right.

I don’t want Anne Hathaway to win, but I do want her to be nominated. She has a long career ahead of her and she is going to give more award worthy performances. The nomination will show that she is to be considered serious as an actress, but if she wins then she might spend her life doing rom-coms like her upcoming “Bride Wars”

Why should Chicago have given their prize to “Dark Knight”? Because it was suddenly revealed the movie is set there?
