‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ red band trailer

Written by

UPDATE (5/31): Sony has pulled the trailer offline, just in time for the official green band version to drop (which it did, in what looks like a legit leak, but we’ll wait for Apple or whatever to deliver before passing it along).

I was going to refrain from posting the recently “leaked” trailer for David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” but there is some talk out there that it might have been a controlled leak, a bit of a marketing stunt. (And after all, no moves have been made to take it down.) If so, I TOTALLY dig it. The material itself already seems to indicate Fincher is back to his grungy days, and maybe having more fun than ever. A little shaky in-theater recording of what will be cleaned up a bit for Thursday’s official green band trailer launch adds to the flavor. So, check out it out via YouTube by clicking the image below or watch an embed after the jump (and delight in the best piece of marketing since the Coens’ “A Serious Man”).

” TGWTDT is a TV programme that was rushed into cinemas. And that fact is painful throughout a fairly dull film I thought. ”

No it wasn’t. The first one was a movie made for the cinema*. And it shows. The other two, by another director, was meant as a tv-series. And it shows. But they were then pushed into cinemas because of the succes of the first one.

(* with more footage shot specifically meant to be edited together as a tv companion piece for the tv-series based on book 2 and 3).

“Von Trier had a similar thing going on with Melancholia, saying that “there’ll be no more happy endings”.”

He was only saying it because he’s was depressed and his own life was shitty. It’s not like it has any meaning beyond that.

“I can’t believe it took till Chad for someone to point out the obvious violence that surely had more to do with the mature trailer rating than the breast.”

If you knew even a thing about MPAA then you’d know that this is the exact opposite to how they think.

In any case, if you are willing to believe the trailer was leaked on purpose, I am willing to believe the main point for them was to have a red band trailer. And a nipple is the quickest ticket there.

    Oh.

Still, I’d like to see how much of that sentiment is reflected in the movie, despite the fact that his movies aren’t really known for ending happily. Thanks for the clarification, anyways. ☺

Benjamin Button sucked. Of course, opinions vary, but I just feel better having expressed mine.

Chad knows plenty about the MPAA, I assure you.

I think Afrika got blocked from awards daily.

    Maxim,
Not sure if anyone has covered this about “The Shining,” or if I’m just pointlessly mentioning something that everyone already knows, but the reason the blood stayed in the trailer for the film is because Kubrick was able to convince the MPAA that it was rusty water…they’re not falling for that one again.

Well what do you know, Sony took it off Youtube and then the official green band trailer pops up online. What a damn coincidence.

They should have kept that on Youtube though. #1. it rocks and #2 it had 1.5 million views. Ride the wave Sony.

Sorry to post a third time but I just realized they changed the final title to simply “Coming”. I guess the phrase “Shes Coming” was only allowed on the red band.

Took down the green band also, don’t think it was legit.

My mistake, the Trailer Addict copy isn’t working, though the one one EW is.

I saw it earlier on the grainy handheld version which had a cool vibe to it, but I saw it in theaters where it felt much more instance.

Ironically, this redband version was with the PG-13 First Class and at first I thought it was just a projectionist error at my theater since Hangover 2 and Bridesmaids were playing at the screens next to it and I assumed it was meant for them, but I see online that others also got the red band with First Class. I actually don’t think the brief flashes of violence and nudity in the trailer are really all that bad for someone who can handle First Class, but I wonder if the trailer might get pulled from theaters or there could be a little controversy similar to when the wrong Hangover 2 trailer was put before Source Code.
