‘50/50’ trailer

Posted by · 12:06 pm · May 28th, 2011

One film that could slip up on the awards season with an endearing, personal journey is “50/50,” from an original screenplay by Will Reiser (it’s fully his story) and directed by “The Wackness” helmer Jonathan Levine. I’m sure Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be someone to watch, but I’ve heard Anjelica Huston steals the show. The trailer has hit via Apple, so check it out by clicking the image below or watch an embed after the jump.

That cracked me up. Looks pretty good…it usually takes a lot to impress me regarding cancer-related movies (they all feel the same to me, and they tend to fall into the same cliche-ridden traps), but the humor makes this one stand out a bit.

Yup, agree with red_wine. Fincher’s movies have some great trailers, and this is no different. Holy shit is that trailer good.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt may officially be the best-dressed on-screen presence right now. The guy always looks sharp.

red: Saw the trailer. It’s awesome, but we don’t post leaked materials (oy, standards), so when the official one hits (Thursday), it’ll go up here.

Nothing douchey about posting a cammed trailer Kris. Its a hot item and almost everyone is posting it. Though obviously it will be infinitely better in its proper 1080p form. Eitherways I wonder if Apple will host it, they rarely have red band trailers.

@red I think the internet is getting a green band, which probably wont be that much different then the red band because it just has that one topless scene.

That Red Band leak for GWDT looks phenomenal (As if it wasn’t already my most anticipated film of the year). It’ll be nice to see Fincher, after “The Social Network”, return to his super-grungy, pitch black roots of Se7en, and this trailer is looking like just that.

Also, can’t wait to see what Trent Reznor is up to on this one. It’s strange, his industrial mood pieces seemed like such and odd and unusual (though in the end, perfect) choice for TSN, but with this material, he seems perfectly matched right off the bat.

Very nice trailer. Looks like Gordon-Levitt’s gonna be great in this one, though I’m a bit wary of Rogen’s best-buddy character. Hopefully he’ll be more than just a very obvious comic relief.

I think Rogen is a very easy actor to underestimate (and, sometimes, deservedly so), but when surrounded with other talented actors (as he is here) his serious playing can be surpisingly effective.

If anybody has seen Knocked Up or Funny People they should know that Rogen can do drama well. But people criticize him because he’s a popular mainstream comedian who, like every comedian ever made, usually sticks to a certain type of humor.

That’s every comedian. Get used to it.

    DylanS and Tony Rock:

Based on trailer alone, his character struck me as a bit too jokey for the whole ‘I’m too young to have cancer’ story, so I just hope he proves to be flexible enough through the movie to make it work. I’m not saying Rogen didn’t earn this role without any merit or track record, I’m only hoping he’ll be able escape the comedian’s typecast for this one.

Sorry to hijack this again but I noticed Devin Faraci made a good point about TGWTDT trailer in that it might be a fake leak. After he wrote that I noticed there are no people walking around the theater, no heads moving around, no background noise in fact the sound quality is excellent for this type of thing. Plus it’s been online over a day and the account that uploaded it was just created yesterday. Food for thought I guess. Then again come Tuesday Sony could pull it down.

@Matthew Yeah, I could see that it was some sort of viral stunt, especially because the shaky cam seems to add to the whole mood. I don’t really see why they would do this besides the mood though, they should just release the HD one.

@ Matthew, Come to think of it, do red band trailers play in theaters? Not sure if I ever remember seeing one, even before an R.

@John I’ve read that people saw it in Texas attached to Hangover Pt. 2

The people that have seen the trailer in theaters in the US have seen the red band or the green band?

I also have never heard of red band trailers playing in theaters.

DEAD! It’s called the “Oscar” wig. Sandra Bullock wore a slightly altered version in The Blind Side.

    As someone who is
    (1) young
    (2) loves films/movies
    (3) was just recently diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor

I am slightly excited for this movie. to those who are commenting about how this movie looks generic…it’s a pretty serious subject matter but approaching it with an amusing take is probably the best way to deal with it. It’s unfortunate that my chances aren’t 50/50 but just to see something like this gives me a little bit of hope. It’s always nice knowing that you’re not the only person dealing with something like this and to see the stories of other people is always nice.

that said, when the movie of my life comes out I hope that it isn’t generic at all, because I would hate that.
