Historically, will this look worse than Shakespeare in Love beating Saving Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line?

If anything can look worse than that.

Which film do you think will get the most 2nd and 3rd place votes? Could “True Grit” surprise us by ranking high on most people’s ballots and taking the win?

(Personally I see “The Social Network” having a stronger shot at placing 2nd on the ballots pf those who went for “Black Swan”, “Inception”, “The Fighter” and “127 Hours” as their first choice. I still think TSN is going to win, but I guess the guilds will tell us.)

If The Social Network wins the DGA, will that reclaim some of it’s lead in the race, or just secure the win for Fincher?

Do you think Banksy will show up, or will he have a fill in?

With no Halle Berry, there are no African American nominations. Pretty crazy for these times. Any thoughts?

If it was a year of five Best Picture nominees, which of the five nominated directors (if any) do you think would be the “lone director” nominee? I have a feeling it would be Aronofsky, but which film would “Black Swan” be replaced by?

Also, how does Anne feel about David O. Russell being nominated after her claim last year that it was completely impossible?

How can the film Inception be nominated for best picture but its director Christopher Nolan snubbed?

Nominating O’Russell for The Figher instead is nothing less than strange!

Much commentary throughout this season has focused on the tastes of AMPAS members. Dave Karger argued that “AMPAS members” are not critics, but Scott Feinberg argued that the world has moved on. ” It is no longer good enough to make a movie that simply checks off the boxes of things that pull at the heartstrings of voters — period pieces, costume dramas, Holocaust movies, etc. The Academy has never been younger, hipper, more diverse (in terms of age and race/ethnicity), or more in-tune with critics than they have been over the past decade,” he wrote.

If “King’s Speech” performs really well, what will that suggest on in terms of AMPAS taste?

It’s funny how far people willing to go to make a point. Schinlder’s List didn’t win because it was a Holocaust film. And it would easily win just the same practically any year. The same is probably true for “Last Days” (if I’m correct about what it’s called).

If you want to argue about the academy’s makeup changing, you are probably right. But don’t make the mistake of confusing correlations and causality. And hardly anything is ever a shoe-in until it is seen.

Also, there’s nothing lamer than reading someone equating age with hipness. And, from where I stand some of the hipper recent choices have been among the most embarassing AMPAS has made.

How much impact, if any, do you think what happens off the screen impacts the Oscar nominations? I think back to the days when Elizabeth Taylor won for the awful BUTTERFIELD 8 due to her health issues at the time. Do you think Heath Ledger’s death impacts Michelle Williams getting a nomination? On the flip side of the coin, no nomination for the ailing Michael Douglas. What are your thoughts?

If The Social Network wins the DGA, WGA, ACE trifecta (very likely unless Tom Hooper upsets David Fincher at DGA) and The King’s Speech wins SAG, which film will you then think will ultimately win Best Picture?

If The Social Network wins the DGA, WGA, ACE trifecta (very likely unless Hooper upsets Fincher at DGA) and The King’s Speech wins SAG, who will you then put your cards behind for Best Picture?

Maybe this is a stupid question but why is Toy Story 3 an adapted screenplay?

Erik, all sequels are automatically placed in the adapted category, since the writers are not starting out with “original” characters.
