Nominations live stream and reactions thread

Written by

Alright folks, AMPAS president Tom Sherak and actress Mo’Nique will be announcing the major category nominations in, oh, 20 minutes or so.  The full list will be available at Oscar.com immediately after (though sometimes during) that announcement.

I’ll leave this space for your instant reactions and will post up my own extended thoughts shortly thereafter.  Anne and I will be doing a four-way Oscar Talk with Peter Knegt and Guy Lodge later this morning, and Guy will circle back later in the afternoon with his extended thoughts on the announcement.  But, for now, here’s your playground.  Check out a live stream of the announcement (which begins at 5:30am PT, 8:30 am PT) after the jump.  More to come shortly.

We’re here! Finally! Best for Weaver, Steinfeld, and Kunis.

One of the least exciting Oscar nom mornings in recent memory, here’s to some good surprises!

I for one, expect to be surprised. Some excitement for the race is never unwanted.

A few words before the nominations:

    Wahlberg get in. Duvall doesn’t.
    Steinfeld gets lead.
    Manville supporting.

  5. Speaking English Avatar

    Manville LEAD.

And once again it appears as if the nominations will be around 10 minutes late…

Ah, my favourite morning of the year. Yes, probably more so than Christmas.

I’m most intrigued to see who will miss out, especially with Director. Will we get another 5/5 DGA match-up again this year?

  7. Kristopher Tapley Avatar

    They’re never late?

  8. Speaking English Avatar

Well they always tell us they announce 5:30 pt/8:30 et, but it seems like it’s more often around 5:40 pt/8:40 et. Whatever. Not a big deal.

Really? I guess I just never notice.

Ben Lyons just said “Black Swan” is the most intense psychological thriller set in New York since “Taxi Driver”….good to know.

No Garfield and Manville makes me VERY sad.

    No The Town in BP.

    Otherwsie, went as expected.

    TKS 12 noms, WOW.

Knew Another Year would get in, they love British films for Best Original Screenplay. Great to see Bardem also. And of course The Illusionist.

Nolan didn’t get a BD nomination. That’s no cool. They did it again.
What Nolan has to do to get an Oscar Nomination?

Again, I’m most upset by Manville and Garfield .

They both deserve nominations. Everything else is fine. No Nolan in BP is interesting. What IS it with the Academy and this guy?

“King’s Speech” for Sound Mixing!!! I can’t believe I called that!

  31. Voland Avatar
    Voland

Well that’s it then, Kings Speech for BP. And they really don’t like Nolan as it seems, Hoopers Direction in TKS is just so unremarkable in every aspect, yet he gets nominated because his movie is the frontrunner.

The Illusionist and Dogtooth should indeed make Guy very happy. Hell, I’m very happy.

Less enthused with the absence of Lesley Manville, but you take what you get.

Very happy Winter’s Bone got it’s due, Hawkes especially. Also Michelle Williams’ inclusion as well as Mike Leigh were welcome surprises.

    Nolan. Denied. Disappointed.

I smell that I will swallow my prediction. Looks like The King’s Speech have the upper hand.

The academy loved it and so True Grit.

Wow they royally screwed Nolan again. WOOW, by this rate Nolan will never get at least a nomination, JUST WOOW. I’m in shock!!

Fuck Jeff Bridges. Hammy bullshit stealing a spot that belonged to Ryan Gosling. Disgusting.

Ditto to Helena Bonham Carter, robbing Mila Kunis of a spot.

Pity there weren’t 10 acting slots, too, although I’d probably regret saying that when Angelina Jolie sneaks her ass in somehow.

No Garfield? No Nolan? WOW. I think it’s a travesty that John Hawkes got in over Garfield. Complete and utter crap.

Nolan must have killed every members mother or something. It’s outrageous that he hasnt been nominated for he’s too best films !!!

Thanks god they didnt snub him her screenplay.

Im surprised too see Hereafter for FX. They love Clint.

Potter got too noms. I just felt that was going to happen.

I Am Love for Costumes. No one saw that one coming.

Unstoppable and Salt in the sound categories, pretty obvious. They always do that with sound.

No Burlesque in the song category !!!

Well, Mike Leigh got his obligatory screenplay nod for Another Year, but nothing else.

SPC doesn’t know s*t about running a campaign. They fudged it up for Lesley.

I’m just glad Winter’s Bone got a Best Picture nomination.

And it’s funny that the biggest surprise in the acting categories (there always is one) was Javier Bardem getting a nod.

  43. SC Avatar

Huh, all that Coens v. Russell talk, and they both got in at Nolan’s expense.

John Hawkes and Jacki Weaver, wouldn’t have guessed.

And Bardem gets the fifth Best Actor slot; I guess Julia’s appeal worked.

Oh well, at least he got picture and screenplay.

My Wahlberg wish didn’t come true and I’m extremely dissapointed that The Town missed in best picture.

And I just realized – No Waiting for Superman in doc!

BIGGEST Surprise (besides Nolan’s snubbing…well, He did get get nominated, so that’s something…)
No “Waiting for Superman” in the Doc. category OR Original Song (which only had four nominees).

Love some of the surprise nominees (Williams, Bardem, Stuart Craig, Antonella Cannarozzi) and how they ignored The Town for Best Pic in favor of Winter’s Bone, possibly 127 Hours. But the snub of Nolan and Garfield are unforgivable.

I can’t be terribly sorry about Christopher Nolan’s snub for directing with such a formidable competition (and I think his chances will be far higher with The Dark Knight Rises), but what’s the deal with the Academy with Nolan?

No Editing nod for Inception? You’re shitting me.

Nevertheless, I’m happy for Exit Through the Gift Shop, Dogtooth, and Dido’s “If I Rise” getting the nod.
