‘Hereafter’ is a weird one for me. I liked so many individual scenes, segments, performances, etc.. — but I wasn’t wild about the “whole”. I don’t think Eastwood got to where he wanted/intended to be about the Hereafter. But I did like it’s many parts. Academy screening going well or not, I don’t see this film getting much in the award season other than some random instances of ingrained Eastwood love.

Hereafter? That movie feels like such a non-event at this point, I didn’t even think it was in the realm of possibilities that anything would come of it. If the Academy does recognize it, I don’t think claims of insularity would be out of question. There are just too many other (better) films that have come out or will be coming out that I don’t think that movie needs to be recognized anymore. But the Academy has disappointed with their choices in the past so who knows?

I know I have said this before but if the IC readership was voting for the ten films nominated (based on the poll) – I think those results would be excellent and that list of top ten films would be one of the most varied and interesting in recent memory. (The two films I have least excitement for are The Fighter and The Way Back so they are interchangeable to me, but the other top 9 are exactly what I hope to see on the final list – which I know will never happen but it is fun to wish.)

God, I can’t stand Plame and Wilson. They’re such publicity whores.

Really, if “Invictus” couldn’t even get with it’s BIOPIC! FAMOUS PEOPLE! EXOTIC LOCATIONS! and ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATED PERFORMANCES! then I doubt “Hereafter” can get in with none of those.
