‘The Illusionist’ poster, featuring yours truly

Posted by · 4:01 am · November 3rd, 2010

Hey, have you heard that I kinda like a little animated picture called “The Illusionist?” I may have mentioned it once or twice here. Well, Sony Pictures Classics has unveiled a new one-sheet for the film, and while I normally get quite critical about the design aspects of posters, this one has my full approval — mostly, I admit, for the fact that it gives me my first US poster quote. Interesting that they fillet out the “m” word from my February review, given the related debate Kris recently started, but after multiple viewings of the film, I stand by it. Full poster (courtesy of IMPAwards) after the jump. (Thanks to regular reader Speaking English for the heads-up.)

Still think Tangled is going to get a best animated feature nod over this, but as somebody who greatly admired The Triplets of Belleville, I’m very much looking forward to it.

Very happy for you Guy! That has to be exciting, even if it is just two words from your full review, it is still your name in print (as well as this site too!) I hope this film does actually find a release this year and none of the nonsense with the injunction or whatever from the makers of the Edward Norton film actually happens.

Don’t let it go to your head, Guy. I’d hate for you to start writing quote-whore reviews. ;)

Wow, other people aknowledge Kris and Guy! Cool. (re: Kris, I mean for other movies of course)

If it shows up at the trailer, I’ll tell my friends that I know this guy! (or, this Guy :p)

And Tim, too! Though I assume he’s been quoted many times before. Still, nice to see you both there.

Get used to those exclamation points. I happened to use “sizzling” in the context of a sentence about the Bourne Ultimatum screenplay and that became “Sizzling!”

You better call Peter Travers for some quote-whoring tips, Guy. Seriously though, congrats! It’sa lovely film to be quote-featured in.

Why would the studio behind the Bourne series think “Sizzling!” (with an exclamation point) would be the sort of adjective to entice viewers? It worked in the review, I’m sure, but how many blokes would look at the poster and say “it’s sizzling! let’s see that!”

Oh poster quotes, how they amuse me so.

I think I mentioned this last year, but I saw Kris Tapley quoted on an Australian poster for “The Lovely Bones”. It was definitely unexpected.

Bizarrely enough, the poster also boasted of Saiorse Ronan’s lead actress nomination at SAG or the Golden Globes. Just odd.
