‘Blue Valentine’ trailer

Written by

Well, speak of the devil. On the heels of the film’s unfortunate run-in with the MPAA ratings board, The Weinstein Company has unveiled the first trailer for “Blue Valentine,” and it should give you some idea of why critics have been talking up this film — and, particularly, its pair of searing lead performances — since it debuted at Sundance in January. I was impressed by the film in Cannes, and Kris also boarded the wagon earlier this week. Check out the trailer via Yahoo! Movies by clicking the image below, or watch the embed after the jump.

I am already in love. Weinsteins, bump up the release by a few weeks and pimp this the fuck out with FYCs up the wazoo!

The release date is just crap. I think the Weinsteins have given up on the movie. It looks really good though and should be given some attention.

Wow that trailer was amazing. I already wanted to see the movie but now I am really dying to see it. I can’t believe it is getting an NC-17 rating?!?!?! They had better appeal the hell out of that if they know what’s good for them. That is poison to a film’s chances to make money and be nominated for any awards (I don’t think an NC-17 film has ever been nominated before but I could be wrong…) Whatever the rating ends up being, it still looks like a film that is definitely worth seeking out however I can.

“Henry & June” in 1990, actually. Incidentally it was also the first ever NC-17 rated film.

This looks fantastic! And I’m not usually into these kind of movies!

Maybe my favorite trailer this year.

What a fresh-feeling trailer. I wasn’t interested in this film until just now.

This looks so boring. Its title should be White People Are Poor Too

That’s a pathetic comment, Jen — and one that says far more about your own narrowly reactionary world view than any socio-political agenda the film might (but doesn’t) have. “Blue Valentine” is a story about the cycle of self-defeating relationships, accepting and rejecting responsibility, substance abuse and emotional abuse — all themes that, last time I checked, are not racially exclusive. If you view any human drama whose protagonists just happen to be white in such colour-coded terms, you must have a really miserable time at the movies.

PS. Not that it matters — and I suppose it’s all relative to one’s own background — but the “white people” in this film aren’t that poor.

My “worldview” is that of a 67-year-old black transsexual amputee, so yes my life is miserable. Oh, and I’m unemployed (it’s Bush’s fault).

None of which excuses your earlier comment. But carry on.

Such a lovely trailer, but as I believe I’ve said before, it’s such a shame about the release date. Regardless of how much buzz the performances have, you can just look to the multitude of small film hopefuls that opened at the very end of the year and ended up with nothing because there wasn’t enough time to build momentum. Even if they send out screeners, voters are probably unlikely to pop it in because they just don’t know about it (unlike an indie like The Kids Are All Right which had a successful box office run and as such as “known”).

I greatly look forward to it nonetheless though.

Graysmith, I’m not sure…there seems to be enough buzz about these particular performances that they might be able to survive the late release date. It seems like a lot of us are waiting on pins and needles for it to show up. Maybe some voters are, too.

What a beautiful trailer! Apart from all the award and rating chatter I just want to see this. I love how they used the song in the trailer. Really well done. And Gosling and Williams look superb together.

Ryan Gosling is, imho, the best actor of his generation and this movie looks very exciting. Maybe there’s something wrong with me but the NC-17 rating makes me want to see it even more.
