One of the lurking titles this Oscar season is Shana Feste’s “Country Strong,” currently set for a limited release on December 22. Screen Gems could make a play for Gwyneth Paltrow, but it’s competitive terrain (Monday’s Off the Carpet will survey the strongest lead actress category in years). Perhaps it’s too easy to chalk it up as “Crazy Heart” with a girl, but all the songs are original, I’m told, so at the very least something could happen there. Check out the trailer after the jump.

Assured GG Best Actress Comedy/Musical Nomination for Gwynnie. And maybe a Grammy nod. Nothing more
I like Gwenyth’s singing voice.
Gwyneth said she studied Faith Hill for this role, but she actually reminded me of Taylor Swift with her awkward dancing and posturing in those stage scenes. I don’t know if this thing has any awards potential outside of the song category, but it could still be fun.
I don’t expect to like the movie.
Gwyneth.. hmmm. Her performance might go either way. She stills looks too classy to pull that accent off (I hope that didn’t come out wrong) and her mouth movements felt weird. Still, she might handle the emotions well.
Wow, Gwynnie has a beautiful voice!
I know the head of the hair dept who worked on this film, she said Gwyneth had a great voice and it seems in, but i hope they have a strong line, this film looks very baity…
Def looks like a combination of Faith Hill and Taylor Swift… i am sure my wife will enjoy this movie.
It seems its more about the guys than about her. Ver similar to Crazy Heart… I dont know. Doesnt seem likely that this movies makes big headlines.
Beautiful voice but.. after watching the trailer I feel like I’ve seen the whole movie…
The title song is a good one and Paltrow can sing it, but I can’t see her muscling her way onto the scene atm.
Kind of surprised this isn’t being released around Thanksgiving. It would probably play better since it has that country song vibe and the south…sort of like The Blind Side with Tim McGraw there to support it.
Looks… terrible.
