‘Black Swan’ trailer

Written by

in

There are two films I’m most looking forward to in 2010: the Coen brothers’ “True Grit” and Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan.” The trailer for the latter has just hit the web courtesy of Apple and it looks like an absolute stunner.  I’m hearing, awards wise, that it’s probably more of a Best Actress play for Natalie Portman than a Best Picture possibility, but we’ll know all of that sooner or later.  The trailer certainly reveals the film as a showcase for Portman, but Barbara Hershey also could be someone to watch for in supporting.  Check out the trailer by clicking the image below or watch the embed on the jump.

Barbara Hershey in the trailer looks eerily like Mickey Rourke lol

    OH FUCK YES.

I’m seeing this precisely two weeks from now, and as far as I’m concerned, August can just go to hell now. (Feeling pretty good about that wild-card Barbara Hershey prediction I made, too.)

It feels very Single White Jewish Female, right ?

Guy: Considering the category seems like a vacant ghetto from this perch, you’ve probably hit onto a great possibility.

This looks like “All About Eve” with dancers that want to kill each other…. awesome :)

Hello? Any attention for Mila Kunis? Villains are nearly always frontrunners in the supporting categories.

Awesome. Not feeling Portman yet, but definitely feeling a Hershey veteran nom, plus more perhaps. Maybe with enough support, we can see an Aronofsky nod? That’d be a dream.

Loving Kunis, too. Breakout actress of 2010 (or battling it out with Lawrence)?

We get it, female bisexuality is “cool”. Especially when it’s two attractive twenty-year-old. Ah, good ole’s patriarchal society…

@Davin: Glad I wasn’t the only one getting the ‘All About Eve’ vibe.

Certainly looks stunning… never realised Portman and Kunis looked so similar! As an awards vehicle, possibly Portman; maybe even Kunis, if she’s good enough?

I read the shooting script and based solely on that I don’t think there is enough there for any actor outside of Portman to get a nomination, it is really totally her story. ..which I don’ t really mean as a negative, because it does work. Even Mila Kunis doesn’t really have a whole lot to do. Barbara Hershey would probably be the most likely to get nominated outside of Portman.

I`d love for Natalie to get nominated, Mila too.
The movie looks amazing. This or Ineption for BP. About time an unusual genre movie wins.

Good thing they said “From the director of ‘The Wrestler’ and ‘Requiem for a Dream,” his two great films. This one looks in that league. STOKED for this.

After watching this trailer, I don’t think Mila Kunis is the villain. I’m getting a whole different vibe. Especially considering some of the dialogue and the “transformation” Portman goes through in the trailer.

If it does play out like I think it does…then this will probably remind some people of a David Fincher film.

Looks incredible. It looks like there’s going to be a lot of handheld camerawork here. I also love the bit of Mansell’s score at the end. Can’t wait.

If the music in the trailer is from the actual score, I hope that Clint Mansell finally gets the recognition he deserves.

Requiem …, The Fountain, The Wrester, and now THIS?

Aronosfky has yet to disappoint me. And the trailer for this film looks skin-crawly excellent.

Glad I’m not alone in my dissatisfaction with The Fountain–directorial masterpiece, absolutely, ’twas breathtaking; but Jackman’s overacting was gross.

However, Mansell’s score not even getting nominated was one of the biggest travesties of the 2000s, I’d say, so I’m hoping the music branch finally shapes up. A neo-noir should be accessible enough for them, haha.

Jesus Christ that was a good trailer. Although I must admit, despite having read the description thousands of times, for some reason when I saw the opening shots I was like, “Huh? That’s not figure skating…..oh, wait…..”. Too much Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan on the brain.

Best Actress is kinda packed this year. I hope we 5 good performances, and not 2 or 3 and them some bad fillers.

Aronofsky can do no wrong in my eyes. ‘The Wrestler’ blew me away in its simplicity and yet displayed a myriad of emotional layers that haunted long after viewing the film. Of course, the same can be said for ‘Requiem’ and ‘The Fountain’ and for good reason. That’s what he does so I would expect no less in this one.

I cannot wait. It’s my most anticipated film of the year. I hope Portman gets her Best Actress nom, and I’ll be rooting for both Hershey and Kunis. Kunis is having a breakout year, as someone mentioned above. This looks so good.

I agree that Aronofsky has yet to disappoint (me, at least) and this looks absolutely STUNNING. From the first moment this was announced a year and half or so ago I knew that we’d be getting something on this level of filmmaking! I just hope that this will be the moment when Hollywood and the Academy will recognize that Aronofsky is one hell of a talented filmmaker.

AND he’s incredibly talented with actors, which these days is not always the case.

Does anyone know what this was shot on? The photography almost looks Duplass Brothers-esque at times. Very interesting look.

Awesome year for young actresses in leading role -Natalie, Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Michelle Williams. I`m looking at BA prediction on the sidelines and I hope Young Hollywood trumps at least Swank (ewww, too many Oscars already, get out!) and Benning (I don`t get why is she so popular with Oscar watchers – such an overactor and obnoxious on and off screen persona).

Out of all of the people I know, only myself and my best friend absolutely love The Fountain. Everyone else loathes it. I believe, like you Kris, that it is an incredible masterpiece, and one of the most emotional films I’ve ever seen. Hugh Jackman does not overact at all. He’s raw, engaging, and filled with realism in his portrayals of men driven by a purpose. Clint Mansell’s score is one of the best of the 00’s.

Weird, outsider chance … what about Winona Ryder? We know nothing about her part, but the trailer makes it seem like she could be a weird, enigmatic character who pops up and steals a couple of scenes.

  37. Silencio Avatar

I’m hoping the drama is more internal than external. The trailer doesn’t seem to say for sure which way the film is heading. Which maybe makes it an effective trailer.

Perhaps, Kris, but there’s definitely some devotion to it on the interwebs. Nevertheless, though I didn’t love it, I still gave it a B-, so Aronofsky has yet to deliver anything average or below.

Random: Anyone hear that The Tourist has been bumped up to 2010?

I think this happens every time an Aronofsky post comes up, but there are more Fountain fans out there than we think (including me).

And that’s probably the best trailer I’ve seen since A Serious Man.

I really liked “The Fountain” to. Much more than “The Wrestler”, which was very good, but didn’t think it was as good as everyone was saying.

“Black Swan” looks fascinating, however. I’m glad Aronofsky has gone from the rough and tumble world of wrestling and gone to psychological thriller involving ballerinas. It would have been easy for him to make a really Oscar bait title and slide right in.

Visually it looks astonishing and the acting appears to be all superb. I’m glad Vincent Cassel is in an English language film where he’s not overplaying it (or, from the looks of it at least) like “Eastern Promises” and “Ocean’s 12”. Always good to see Barbara Hershey on screen and, hopefully, doing her best work since “Lantana” at the start of the last decade.

The Fountain was pretty great. Not as good as the other Aronofsky films, but still rad, even if the future portion is laughable.

Aronofsky is not my favorite working director, but I am a big fan. It looks splendid.

I to think Jen has a point, though. Aronofsky has a tendency to underwrite and over-sexualize his female characters.

It IS kind of tiresome to keep seeing these male- driven fantasies of woman on woman action in movies, especially in these types of psychological thrillers. We’ve seen it before in many different variations, from “Notes on a Scandal” to “Chloe,” and when I saw it in this otherwise exciting trailer I kind of rolled my eyes. We don’t see it much with guys, though, huh?
