Back in September, at Venice, I found my senses dazzled and my brain nonplussed by Luca Guadagnino’s “I Am Love” — a fulsomely stylized family melodrama showcasing yet more marvelous work from Tilda Swinton (in Italian, to boot) over an otherwise undernourished story and ensemble.

Still, with every month that passes, it becomes clearer that I’m in the extreme minority: critics across the board are liberally handing out “masterpiece” claims and Visconti comparisons, and some I’ve spoken to even declare it their favorite film of the last year. Perhaps it caught me on a bad day. Perhaps not. I look forward to catching it again to find out.
Either way, the film looks set to be a robust arthouse hit when it open Stateside this summer. British audiences need only wait until April; The Guardian has an exclusive trailer here, while the striking UK one-sheet is above.

fantastic poster, but what is the plot? All i got from that trailer was the Swinton’s character is kind of a tramp?
I know nothing of this movie, but that trailer made it look beautiful.
But I think we need to stop putting posts about Swinton having a good performance. Not because these claims aren’t true, but saying Swinton gives a knockout performance is like saying Michael Bay put an explosion in a movie…it’s always gonna happen ;)
Ummm … I’ve seen this movie and I absolutely loathed it. Instant worst movie of all time.
Okay, I guess I’m not the only non-believer then.
But … of all time?
this looks insanely awesome. that is going towards the top of my most anticipated films list for this year, even if it is a festival holdover from last year. I can’t wait for it! thanks for posting the link to the trailer, I had forgotten about this movie since its premiere at Venice and now I have a new charge of excitement about seeing the film based on that awesome poster and incredible trailer.
I meant to say “ONE” of the worst. My apologies, I didn’t mean to exaggerate it that strongly.
“fantastic poster, but what is the plot? All i got from that trailer was the Swinton’s character is kind of a tramp?”
I agree, kind of like a Sofia Coppola trailer minus the hipster soundtrack.
The poster is definitely inspired. Seems as if they are really latching onto Tilda Swinton to sell this one, with the title all but adorning her similarly coloured torso.
I dig it. Should be an interesting watch.
Perhaps a Swinton makeup nominee is in order to amend the fuckery of this past year? If so, huzzah!
Am I the only one that doesn’t like Tilda Swinton? I find her ugliness so distracting. I know, I am a victim of Hollywood’s prettiness. Where’s her charm anyway? I know I sound stupid for making such a comment but I have to be honest.
Very much intrigued, is the music in the trailer the original score? And is the choral piece in the film?
