I’m about to head into an LFF press screening of what is possibly my most anticipated film of the year, Michael Haneke’s “The White Ribbon.” As if my excitement levels couldn’t be any higher, The Guardian points us to this exquisite new trailer for the film. (They’re claiming it’s a world exclusive, though Trailer Addict offers a near-identical one, embedded below.)
I sense it’s a film that will merit a full review, so I hope to cobble one together by end of play today. “Hope” being the operative word.

I’ve got to say, I was actually kind of disappointed by the movie. There were certainly great moments, but as a whole… it was simply good, if only just.
I’ve heard the premise of the film. I’m curious if it’s based on true events or if it’s fully fictional.
I saw this trailer on youtube a couple weeks ago, actually.
glad to hear you’re excited to see it, Guy. hopefully you’ll love it as much as I did – it’s my favorite film of the year so far and one of the best films I’ve seen in the past few years.
Lone Scherfig said it “might be the best film [she’s] ever seen”.
I’m sure it really was an exclusive. Trailer Addict notoriously steals other sites’ content and puts their logo on it.
I’m sorely disappointed that I didn’t get tickets to the AFI screening of this, but hopefully I can get some rush tickets.
Have been hearing nothing but good things (well, except for Matthew I guess). Look forward to hearing your thoughts Guy.
I loved it. I am excited to see it again as it is a pretty heavy film, but I thought it was beautiful, and like all of Haneke’s films, it leaves you with questions about its intentions and meaning. As I didn’t read Haneke’s allusions to Protestantism/Pre-Nazism before I saw the movie, I am can’t wait to watch it again with that in mind.
