Those who read regularly know I’m a big football fan, so I felt it necessary to point to the news, which fellow fans will surely have discovered by now or soon, that former NFL quarterback Steve McNair (Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans, Baltimore Ravens) has been killed in Nashville. He was 36 years old. This is the only information we have so far:
Former Titans quarterback Steve McNair has been killed. Police said McNair suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in downtown Nashville.
The incident happened near 2nd South & Lea Avenue. A female victim was also found dead.
According to Don Aaron with the Metro Nashville Police Department, no suspects have been taken into custody. Several people were being taken to police headquarters for questioning.
Gone way too soon. He never got the proper respect because he was unfortunately so injury prone, but I always thought him to be a considerable talent. And he was mere inches away from a Super Bowl victory in 1999. Maybe a win there would have changed things, but he finished his career in Baltimore and retired in April of 2008. Very sad news.

I am a huge Titans fan. I followed McNair and George from Houston to Tennessee. He was a phenomenal talent. May he RIP!
Very sad indeed. I think every football fan remembers the super bowl between the Rams and Titans and how it ended. Arguably one of the top 5 or so toughest QB’s to ever play in the NFL. Sadly, he was and is very underrated due to the fantasy football mentality most people have when it comes to determining who is and who is not a great football player. I had his football jersey growing up not because I was a Titans fan (Cardinals fan) but because I respected the way he played the game.
RIP Steve “Air” McNair
One of my favorite quarterbacks, and terribly underrated. He put more of himself into every game he played than a lot of guys would in their careers. This upsets me a lot. RIP
I go to see Whatever Works, and this happens?
Such a sad story. I always admired Air McNair.
Very sad. I live in the Nashville suburbs and he still was very beloved and this is a blow to the community.
While things are still somewhat vauge, this looks like a murder suicide. Girl killed him and then shot herself. Not official but that what it looks like. Awful!

Actually, the Titans were mere inches from tying the game and going into overtime, not winning, in 1999.
And to be more accurate, Tennessee still would have had to get the PAT – not a given seeing how many times it went wrong in 2008 – to tie things up.
And I suppose either the Titans or Ravens or both will have tributes to him this year, if not a patch to be worn in his memory.
Nonetheless, Steve McNair was a great player, leader when in top form. This is a tragedy and he will be missed.
