or the announcer guy should come on at that point and say “accepting this award blah blah blah.” It’s tough I mean I know the dude’s films but didn’t know what he looks like

There were many, many more embarrassing moments for the BFCA this year. At least this one made me laugh.
Xavier
This moment was really not that bad, and actually provided a bit of comedic relief.
I guarantee that 99% of America wouldn’t be able to recognize Darren Aronosfky. I didn’t.
So why should Katy Perry? Aronofsky wasn’t even a nominee in the category she was presenting… In fact, he wasn’t nominated in ANY category.
So how WOULD she know who he is?
Not being able to recognize someone and saying “I don’t know who that is” on a live mic are two different things.
Xavier
This is the woman who sang “I kissed a girl and I liked it.” She wears outlandish vintage one-pieces that resemble bananas. She’s made a name for herself because she’s not afraid to push the envelope, challenge convention, and be herself.
Do you really think she’s the type of person who would care about such a gaffe?
The issue has zero to do with whether she cares or not.
Mr. F
Why did they invite her anyway? Was it just because she is a singer and they were presenting best song? If so, then why not get someone else with more appeal to the movie-going crown?

In all honesty I think Katy Perry is very dumb, I get that bovine vibe from her in every picture I see. I don’t even mean to make fun, I just think she’s of extremely low intelligence.
Vile is a bit much. There are words that are applicable, words I won’t say for obvious reasons, but vile, nah.
David
amanda bynes and that christopher guy – who thought that would add class and prestige to the BFCA? excurciating.
high point – Viola Davis managing to make the world right again after the Anne Hathaway bar mitzvah speech.
David
thats excruciating. sorry for the mis-type.

It made me laugh, but it should never happen. I wondered why Katy Perry was presenting an award but then I realized she had the biggest song of the year so I guess it fit. It was, at least, more fitting than the Best TV Movie award which was awarded to a miniseries, go figure.

Personally, I was more annoyed with Ludacr…, er, I’m sorry, I mean CHRIS BRIDGES. While announcing the Best Writer nominees, he said, “Peter Morgan for Frost AND Nixon.”
Chris, if you want to be taken seriously as an actor, it would help to memorize the nominees. The really good actors have to memorize a lot more than that.
Xavier
“The issue has zero to do with whether she cares or not.”
The point is that if she doesn’t care, she’s not going to learn from this “mistake,” so what’s the purpose of discussing it?

Danimal: So true. I noticed that right away when he said that- what a tool.
And Richard Gere: wonderful speech except for the part about the need to get away from the last eight years. I mean, do so many honorees feel the need to take a swing at the President? Note to liberal Hollywood: the world wasn’t perfect prior to 2000 and it won’t be in 2009 going forward. I was surprised and disappointed with Richard when he said that- it took away from an otherwise thoughtful speech.

Shocking how ill advised some of the presenters were. Virginia Madsen not knowing she could be heard (“You do this one…”) Hoffman with the cue cards, and especially these 2 not knowing who Aronofsky was.
Regardless, this is still the only major film awards telecast of which all the voters have seen all the films. That is enough for me to view this group of nominees, winners and critics in high esteem. Plus the 2 hour running time is just fine.

I had no problem with Anne Hathaway’s speech. She was stunned, humbled, honored. She obviously just couldn’t find the words. Give her a break.
In other news, Sean Penn looked stoned out of his mind. And talked like it too.
Chase Kahn
That drove me nuts, it was so MTV Movie Awards — I thought they were giving out ‘Best Kiss’.
And who the hell is Katy Perry to be questioning the validity of people coming on stage. If you don’t know, keep your damn mouth shut, ya whore.
And Christopher Mintz-Plasse. You’re aren’t god, your an F-ing dork who got cast as a dork and you will play that role for the rest of your life. You ruined ‘Role Models’, too.
Cat in the Hat
Yes, that was one of the worst moments of the evening’s telecast. ITA that they should have not been there to present if they don’t have the respect to know who Darren is. But I also agree that the mystery overhead speaker person, should have said, “Speaking on behalf of Bruce, is…”. Very poorly produced moment, there should have been a contigent plan for this moment.
I don’t completely hate Katy Perry’s songs. However, Katy Perry is in no way an envelope pusher, not even a little. If Katy Perry is what constitutes “challenging convention” these days, then it’s no wonder the record industry is dying.
(Sorry, Xavier, it had to be said. This isn’t meant as a personal attack.)
And more in line with the topic, I wouldn’t recognize Darren Aronofsky if he punched me in the face. However, Katy Perry’s gaffe shows a disrepect towards the behind-the-scenes aspect of filmmaking that simply doesn’t belong on an awards show. Remember when they handed out Oscars for “lesser awards” in the fucking audience? It’s the same unfortunate idea – that only recognizable names deserve to be onstage – and it needs to be nipped in the bud as soon as it happens.
Xavier obviously has no idea about pop music and marketing being the same things. He still believes it is all real.

I completely agree Kris, that whole moment made me cringe. It was so incredibly disrespectful, especially coming from a young woman who had no business being there in the first place. Whether she knew who he was or not, she shouldn’t have even opened her mouth, just smile and hand over the award.
Actually, the whole night made me cringe. It seemed like it was incredibly uncomfortable for everyone in attendance.
Oh and don’t get me started on the “Frost AND Nixon” bit. Good lord….
McGuff
The biggest issue is that when Perry came out, most of the audience probably thought it was a mistake that they didn’t introduce her as Zooey Deschanel…
McGuff
I say biggest issue because Katy Perry could say anything and I’ll be too busy picking my jaw up from the floor to listen.

Yet another reason why the BFCA is a vile organisation. KATY FUCKIN’ PERRY?! Jesus christ, what a load.
er, sorry about the language. :/

Where can we see a clip of this?
