I was just perusing the Warner Bros. awards site and was greeted with an array of updates I wasn’t aware of. First and foremost, there is the new “Gran Torino” poster image to the left here (click for a slightly larger image). I dig it as much as the first poster, maybe even a little more.
Second, in the “for your consideration” section for the film I noticed there is an original song in play, written by Jamie Callum. I have no idea what it’s called yet, but it’s worth keeping an eye on given how painfully weak that race is this season.
It’s also interesting that Warners is apparently choosing not to push any actor for awards consideration outside of Clint Eastwood. I would have expected at least a modest push for Bee Vang, who has a great role opposite Eastwood for much of the script.
I also noticed that Dave Johannson has been added to Nick Schenk with a “story by” credit. The film’s IMDb page also reflects this. Apologies if this was already out there, but it’s the first I’m hearing of it.
Over on the “Dark Knight” side of things, you get a nice sampling of James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer’s kick-ass score, as well as a similar rundown of FYC declarations and even a link to the screenplay. Very cool. Soon there will be a “score” section and a “making of” section, but right now there’s a section with scattered images from the film, most of them new to my eyes. I love this one:

Nice Gran Torino´s poster, and horrible Changeling´s poster, but Changeling is the best film of the year and one of the best films of all times. Is a piece of arte and a truly masterpiece. Angelina Jolie is suberb and in my opinion Changeling must win the best film, best director and best actress academy awards.Clint Eastwood Is the best director and Chngeling one of his best films. Gran Torino: i can´t wait to see it!!!!
I hope the whole movie is acted in silloetted profile. It’s his “method.”
I’m gonna call it now: Gary Oldman, along with Heath Ledger, will receive a best supporting actor nomination for his performance in The Dark Knight.
Oldman and Ledger. Count it.
That would please me greatly, but it doesn’t really make any sense. Though his surprise emergence at the end of the truck sequence gave me one of the biggest emotional highs of the year.
I think Jon Brion’s Little Person might get a nomination for Best Original Song, if you haven’t seen the movie (for shame), you can check it out here:

Great, an original song from the wine-bar edition of Michael Buble.
C’mon, Clint. Give us SOMETHING to look forward to.
Are Zimmer and Newton Howard eligible for nomination for The Dark Knight’s score – easily the best of the year? I seem to recall some stupid bylaw a couple of years back prevented them from being eligible for Batman Begins. Sure hope they get the nod this time. No score has come close to resonating quite as well with its accompanying film as The Dark Knight’s.
Well, maybe Thomas Newman’s delightful work on WALL-E.
(And if Newton Howard gets nominated, it will help atone for the grievous slight against him when his wondrously atmospheric score for Signs was completely ignored.)
I Know its over the topic, but I saw Changelling last nigth. It has some problems, But Jolie is devastating.
Chris, why is she with no oscar buzz rigth now?
[…] Contention brings us a look at new posters for “Gran Torino†and “The Wrestler†respectively both of which I love especially the latter’s red […]
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3! Gosh, even with such a “weak” year for original songs people are still denying the possibility.
No we aren’t, AJ. HSM3 is on Kris’ chart, and I’m predicting a nomination.
i was wondering; were the Dark Knight pictures moved somewhere else because i just looked and theres no pictures there ???
