Oh, one more reason the Academy missed the boat this year…

The Grammys saw fit to give Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard the award for best score soundtrack last night. The HFPA, as you know, gave The Boss a Golden Globe earlier this year. Did the Academy distinguish itself by snubbing these two works or just further prove that music branch to be off its rocker?

But jeez, couldn’t NARAS choose a safer choice that Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’s Raising Sand for album of the year?

The Grammy voters are MUCH WORSE than the Oscar Voters.

Alison Krauss & Robert Plant, Herbie Hancock, Ray Charles, and O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack have all won album of the year this decade.

Springsteen and Dylan I think have combined for 800 grammys in the last 15 years, far removed from their peak.

These are voters that vote safe year after year

What can you expect from the music branch anyway? After all, they did disqualify Jonny Greenwood’s godsend of a score for There Will Be Blood.

But they prove themselves somewhat worthwhile by awarding WALL-E two well-deserved awards and giving Juno the compilation award it deserved.

Springsteen has, however, never won a Grammy for album of the year, I believe. Which is bullshit.

Honestly, I trust the AMPAS music branch WAY more than Grammy voters.

Kris…thanks for correcting the problems I was having with the site…your the man.

I couldn’t believe the Eddie Vedder snub last year, not to mention the “disqualification” for Jonny Greenwood’s groundbreaking score for There Will Be Blood.

Is there an Academy backlash against “rock stars” getting nominations??

And why only have three songs in the Best Song category anyway?? I wouldn’t mind a field of five every year (unless they were all songs from Enchanted…in which case, I would rather they just did away with the category all together).

I hate the grammys. The only inspired choice they have made this decade is giving “Taking the long way” by the Dixie Chicks album of the year.

The Grammys did have MIA bouncing around with that amazing belly. So they’ll probably have the better show this year.

The Grammy’s always award the populist, middle-of-the-road scores every year – how is the Dark Knight any different? Its just an action score lacking memorable themes and the usual Media Venture/Remote Control electronic/orchestra mix. Not sure how it was ever a contender for best score any way.

The Academy got a lot of things wrong this year. They’ve gotten a lot of things wrong in their past. Shit happens.
