It burns me up that I have to step out for most of the early part of the day right now, because I woke up to the awful news that Sidney Lumet, prolific marcher to his own drum, has left us. It’s an epic loss, I feel. Two of this man’s films have solid spots in my personal top 10 films of all time. I’ll be back later to pen something more in depth, but for now (and forever), the work speaks for itself.

Simply one of the best directors Hollywood ever had: four of his films have strong positions in my personal top 100. What would cinema be without some of the iconic scenes he’s given us over the years?
Goodbye, Mr. Lumet.
If I ever got the chance to do a Sight and Sound, Dod Day Afternoon would round out my 10. Did any film capture a moment in its place and time better?
Such a filmmaker. Dog Day Afternoon is burned into my mind, as is Network. Great movies that show the state of mind in the 70s. They would easily be on a list of my top films.
One of the idols that I always wanted to shake hands with. Very sad news indeed.
RIP Sidney Lumet. Probably my favorite scene from the film.
