I love it! I have to say, I’m a huge fan of the film, and I can’t really complain about the support the critics are demonstrating towards it, but this is getting obnoxious. You’d think some of them might take up the cause of The Fighter, Inception, Black Swan or 127 Hours just to seem original.

  2. Guy Lodge Avatar

San Diego might have something to say about that.

    (God bless you, San Diego.)

Wow, is this an official thing release by Sony/Columbia or fan made? i like it

Yeah, San Diego, eat your heart out!

Let’s pretend that Black Swan getting so many citations in, say, original screenplay, cinematography and score, even if later has little chance at the Oscars isn’t suprising and wonderful.

San Diego didn’t have their attention. It had the minimum amount…

But wait, why am I using that quote? It’s as shallow as it is overrated.

  6. Andrej Avatar

And then The King’s Speech comes by and wins the Oscar.

    Poster fail.

  7. Matthew Starr Avatar

C’mon Maxim that quote is hilarious especially the manner in which Eisenberg delivers it. I also like how you applied it here.

And this is great, I honestly hope it was done by Sony.

  8. Matthew Starr Avatar

How is this a poster fail? It is talking about the critics awards, not Oscar or any other awards institution.

Yes, hail San Diego for not following the pack mentality and going with WINTER’S BONE. Hey, SOCIAL NETWORK is good. Perhaps very good.
But, is it a piece of monumental cinema like CITIZEN KANE, 8 1/2 or LAWRENCE OF ARABIA? Hardly, come on critic’s groups, spread the laurels around a bit.

  10. Matthew Starr Avatar

I just read a comment on Awards Daily forum that someone made it.

    http://www.awardsdailyforums.com/showthread.php?p=1095058

But still this totally goes along with the swagger of the film and the main character. I can’t be the only person tired of the FYC ads with nothing but quotes from Peter Travers.

It’s a FAN made poster, made by Grizzly,a member of the awards daily forum.

    @Joe

Why would you compare the film with Citizen Kane when it’s not even 2 months old?Let’s talk about the film in 10 years and we’ll see what it’s legacy is.

I’m loving this awards season not only because deserving winners are actually taking them(The Social Network,Bale,Portman,Inception for techs) but seeing arrogant snobs like Guy Lodge cry in EVERY single post about it.

Keep up the bitching…it’s making the relatively boring season, entertaining .

Love this, couldn’t care less if the season seems boring, the movie deserves every recognition.

What I meant is that in the grand scheme of things, it’s all about the Oscars, that’s what people will remember and celebrate the most. Yes, it’s awesome for TSN to sweep the critic awards, but aren’t they singing victory too early?

    Who’s singing victory?

It’s a F-A-N made poster…Sony has nothing to do with it.

I don’t find it shocking that the picture is placed without any write up under it just to create some controversy out of nothing and get extra hits on the site.

There are no interesting headlines as TSN sweeps everything,so making them up is certainly nothing surprising.

  17. Andrej Avatar

    Wayne:

It doesn’t matter who made it, to me it’s singing victory far too early. Let me see TSN win SAG and PGA (since DGA and Writer’s look like it’s already theirs) and I’ll let this one slide without further complaints.

  18. Kristopher Tapley Avatar

Wayne: What exactly is wrong with you? It was Tweeted to me. I had no idea where it came from. But good on you for having the inside scoop on something you think I care more about than I really do.

    Now, breathe and move on.

i think that this smothering is actually going to hurt its Oscar chances. Overkill is not good press

  20. Andrej Avatar

It also should be noted that I DO like TSN a lot, and if it happens, to me it’s a worthy winner of Best Picture. It’s just that this poster reminds me of the “EASY” cover The Sun had when they found out who were up against England in this year’s World Cup. It has fail potential since it’s an early overstatement.

    Also, San Diego.

I don’t think anyone should take this too seriously, it’s so obviously poking fun at the movie sweeping, especially re-using that quote from the movie. I see it more as poking fun at the critics groups for being so one-track-minded than being about calling victory.

You really need to just run a banner that says:

The Social Network wins [fill in the blank].

It’s not necessary to report these awards until something else wins.

I literally HATE it when one film (ie. Slumdog Millionaire, The Hurt Locker) dominates the awards season. But, The Social Network is a masterpiece through and through; a film that is both a complete joy to watch and one that makes profound statements about its characters and about the society in which we live. It truly is the film of its time. So, with every Best Picture award it wins, I’m a very happy film buff. Keep them coming!

    @Kris,

It might be worth adding to the main post that it’s fan-made though, so most visitors who don’t read these comments start thinking Sony have gone all megalomaniac.

Yeah, I love this and I don’t care at all if it’s winning all the critics, it’s my favorite of the year. But I can see where people are coming from with it becoming boring. Maybe the guilds will change the tides (I hope not to much because I still want it to win picture.)

    The poster is awesome.

Crazy critics dominance (No Country, Slumdog, Hurt Locker) hasn’t hurt those films when it came to Oscar.

But TSN’s dominace is on another level. I ‘could’ see a slight backfire in this instance. It’s been a while since there was one.

Awesome (fanmade!) poster. I was laughing loudly when I saw it. Yeah, even if its message is not completely correct.
And btw. doesn’t Guy at least like The Social Network a bit? I thought so but correct me if I’m wrong.

The fan sadly does not know how to do Math (“Hang on, let me check that.”) TSN missed one Best Picture award (San Diego’s, as it has been pointed out here).

    Still it’s pretty cool.

Two things: I dislike it when one film starts taking all the critics awards. First off, movies are cinematic art. Art is subjective. Thus, it only seems obvious to me that many different kinds of people would like many different kinds of movies. Critics are sheep and they BORE me senseless. Second, this ad, however, does not bore me — it’s funny and oh so true in its bragging — while it’s fan-made, it wouldn’t have surprised me a bit if Sony had taken it. This movie is so bloated with self-love that it’s feeling obnoxious. I saw some commercials for it where the director was actually in the TV commercial and looked and sounded like a full-of-himself ass. I think this film was good, not great (well, maybe Aaron Sorkin’s script was great) and I just don’t get the critics jizzing all over themselves trying to say this is (apparently) the only movie this year worthy of appreciation.

JFC people need to lighten up. It didn’t win San Diego, so what? Now this poster needs to be shredded and destroyed lest it interfere with the integrity of the Oscar race? Maybe he should just change it to “WINNING ALL (BUT ONE) OF THE CRITICS AWARDS”. Not catchy but truthful, and more importantly, this is clearly really serious business!

This is really desperate and pathetic. The hideous photo of Eisenberg isn’t helping matters either.

It amazes me that anybody is taking this as anything other than a gag about the film’s sweeping of the critics awards. Have people actually lost every fibre of their sense of humour?
