i blame Fincher for 2 things:Kristen Steward(even if she’s well casted in “runaways”) and to give legitimacy as actor to Timberlake
It would appear that Timberlake has given legitimacy as an actor to Timberlake … by being quite good. How dare he?
And Stewart impressed in “The Safety of Objects” before “Panic Room,” by the way. So blame Rose Troche, if you must. Or we could not blame anyone, and accept that she, too, has talent.
(PS. The past tense of “cast” is still “cast.”)
We’ve known that Timberlake was a talented comedian for a while, so I suppose him being a credible actor is a logical progression.
I still think he was quite good in Alpha Dog.
What is bad about Kristen Stewart?
I’d sooner blame Stephanie Meyer for giving us the dead weight character that is Bella Swan than blame Kristen Stewart. She has been good in other movies not about vampires.
As for Timberlake, he deserves his Emmy Award for hosting SNL and seems to be more than just a pretty face who can carry a tune.
I find Kristin Stewart painfully unwatchable in everything I’ve ever seen her in, but I’ve always been genuinely surprised at Justin Timberlake’s talent. He’s not “one of the greats” by any shot, and I can’t imagine he’s going to get any serious Oscar consideration for “The Social Network” (or anything else, not for a long while), but he’s a thoroughly competent actor.
sorry but in France, we haven’t the same idea about Timberlake’s acting and Stewart’s acting!
Hosting SNL doesn’t make you a better if not good actor…
Timberlake is just as dorky in person so i don’t think he’s acting there…
Something completely off-topic…
Kris, I believe you should consider Secretariat as a highly probable Art Direction nominee at the next update of the column. Thomas Sanders is a respected guy who never won and the film will be pushed hard in general. I don’t believe it will get in the top categories. Not just yet. But such a big American period piece is bound to get a nod for its sets, imo…
I’ve never not considered it highly, to be honest. Certainly after seeing the film I thought he was formidable but I want to see if it out and out tanks with critics first (which it could, or they could give it a pass).

The 1970s isn’t exactly that branch’s favorite period. But the film is at #7 on the Art Direction contenders chart, so of course it’s being considered.
