DreamWorks has already released a couple of trailers for the animated “Megamind,” but the latest (via Apple) is probably the last full-length one we’ll get in advance of the November 5 release. I really liked what I saw of the film at Comic-Con this year and given that we’re likely to see five nominees in the animated feature category this year due to a rule change broadening what is considered feature length, it could have a fighting chance. But the competition is stiff, and not just from the usual suspects. Check out the trailer by clicking the image below or watch the embed after the jump.

Wow, way to ruin it by telling us that he never actually died. Nice going, marketeers. *rolls eyes*
I will still see this, though.
I agree. I enjoyed the concept of the movie more when we thought the superhero died. I’m not seeing this now.
Sigh, I also thought the superhero died.
Stupid question, i guess, but is the hero-cum-singer a reference to Phoenix? Kind of lame if it is but he’s not a rapper so it might be…. no, I think it is.
Anyone else find Farrell’s voice in this extremely grating?
It’s a kid’s movie, you can’t kill off characters in a kid’s movie. Unless you’re Pixar, that is.
Not particularly interested in this one, and I do wonder how interested people will be in this since it’s going to be the second animated film in six months where the main character is a “villain”.
So trailer #3 doesn’t change anything for me. It still looks bad. The concept is interesting but the rest, the character design (Jonah Hills character looks like… well, Jonah Hill.), the humour, the sidekick characters, does nothing for me.
Sure, I haven’t yet seen it, but I nevertheless hope it won’t get nominated. My guess would be:
– Toy Story 3
– How to train your Dragon
– The Illusionist
– Legend of the Guardians
– and either Tangled, Despicable Me or some ‘dark horse’ surprise that is not Megamind.
Disney is having free advanced screenings of Secreteriat around the country if anyone is interested. Link ->

The earlier trailers were doing a lot more for me than this one does. They showed off more original ideas and jokes. This trailer feels like it’s almost entirely made up of schtick you could find in a ton of this century’s CG animated movies.
[…] In Contention: Kris Tapley likes what he sees as DreamWorks Animation releases what will most likely be the final trailer of “Megamind” prior to its November 5 release date. A late threat to upset “Toy Story 3,” perhaps? If so, it would have to be really good. […]
