Peter Jackson’s King Kong…again

Written by

I must say, I’m kind of amped for the new Peter Jackson-directed King Kong 360/3D ride at Universal Studios.  The old, classic attraction, you might recall, went up in flames along with much of the historic lot when the area caught fire in the summer of 2008.  Here’s one of the many commercial spots that have caught my eye as of late.  A five-minute making-of featurette after the jump.  More goodies over at Universal’s YouTube page.

Oh, and here’s a March 4 Geek Tyrant post with details on the ride that I stumbled across with some brief, wholly unrefined Google searching out of sheer curiosity.

Ahh, they replaced this ride with The Mummy Roller Coaster at Universal Orlando. Not gonna lie, it actually resembles some weird amusement park ride I once rode in a dream, so seeing it come to life was weird to say the least. As for King Kong, I remember being scared sh*tless at seeing that big guy when I was little.

Off topic question for ya Kris.

I got around to Winter’s Bone this week and thought John Hawkes was pretty good as Teardrop. Any reason he is not at least on the contenders page? I know you didn’t like the movie but he played that role quite effectively.

I was inspired and opened up to the wonders of cinema the same way he was when he first saw that 1933 “King Kong” – when I watched his “Lord of the Rings” as a 10-year-old in 2001. I can’t think of a better gift a filmmaker could give to his audiences than passing down that same sense of awe only the movies can evoke. Bravo!

Same with me, Speaking English, except I was 15 in 2001!

I was also 10 in 2001, and was also opened up to the wonders of film after seeing Lord of the Rings! Truly, no film has had a greater impact on me!

Matt: Not really, just an oversight I guess. I don’t really expect much to happen for him regardless but we’ll see.

You shouldn’t feel old at all! What are you, like early to mid 20s?

I kid, really — the thought of adults born in the 90s just unsettles me.

    (I’m 27.)
