Case closed…for now

I’ve been out scouting potential wedding locations all afternoon, but as a Variety story revealed today, the hub-bub concerning a potential shift to January for the Oscars would apply to the 2012 show, not the upcoming 2011 show.  Which, you know, of course.  I’ve been dealing with it as a kind of abstract idea and figured it was too late in the game for it to happen for the upcoming show, but that doesn’t make all the discussion moot.  We’ll just be putting it on hold for now.

In the meantime, a few more folks have chimed in with thoughts on the matter.  Anne Thompson thinks it’s all a bunch of silliness (and is rebutted aggressively by David Poland), while Steve Pond gets Bruce Davis on the record in a piece that supports the (CRAZY! INSANE! ASININE!) theory that awards fatigue is, indeed, real.  Go figure.  Gregg Kilday also had some of the same stuff to offer at The Hollywood Reporter.

The Oscars will air on ABC February 27, 2011.

I think the Globes should take this opportunity now to move their ceremony up anyway.

As long as War Horse sweeps the Oscars, I will not care. But purely out principle, I am against this idea. Give people time to think before they have to vote. Otherwise, I fear too many people will just randomly check off names and titles.

And you know that this is a very likely scenario.

I agree. In a nightmare scenario, I don’t want people blindly marking off Hilary Swank, Best Actress, for Conviction, just because her performance looks the baitiest from the trailer. Ugghhh…

First off congrats kris! Take lots of pictures so you can compare potential locations and that will help you weigh the pros and cons.

Secondly I am personally looking forward to the move from feb-march to january for the oscars and I wish it was happening this year instead of next year. Hopefully studios respond with releasing good movies throughout the year instead of just nov and dec

Yeah, Tom O’Neill is the only one who I think is really off his rocker in this debate. April?? The world moves so fast nowadays, and to practically wait until the summer to find out the winners? No way.

    And congrats, Kris!

I took a screenshot of Finke’s article just in case she changes a few numbers when we aren’t looking and goes ‘TOLDJA!’

For those who missed the podcast where it was mentioned, yes, I asked my girlfriend of (off and on) six years to marry me on Christmas Eve in Central Park. The congrats are appreciated, belated or not. ;)
