This looks rather good in a solid, meat-and-potatoes way. Malkovich looks particularly interesting.
But I hope Jolie’s performance has more range than the trailer reveals. As yet, I’m unconvinced of the Best Actress frontrunner hype, given the level of the competition.

That looks pretty good. Eastwwod does good with these kinda stories I could see some noms . Though Malkovich looked more interesting than Jolie I have to say.

I’m with Spike Lee. I love Clint, but the academy needs to stop blowing him. This trailer gave me no reason to want to see this film at all. It looks completely forgettable and bland.

Small part for Amy Ryan I guess.

Actually I thought the trailer was riveting, the production value looked spot-on, Angelina Jolie looks like she delivers yet another heart wrenching performance and I never underestimate Clint. I really want to see something on Gran Torino….

I think that looks fantastic, Honestly i wasn’t a huge fan of A Mighty Heart, and it’s nice to see Angelina back on her game!
It’s not as if she had much form before A Mighty Heart. (I was also no fan of the film — I thought her awfully overwrought.)

Jolie was fantastic in Gia, George Wallace tv bio pic and the movie she won the Oscar for- Girl Interrupted. Interesting trailer and I always enjoy
Malkovich.
I’ll give you Gia (and to a lesser extent Girl, Interrupted, though there’s no way she should have won the Oscar IMO) — but boy, did she ever have a bleak seven years after her win.
I miss the edge and humour she had as a younger performer — her dramatic work lately has been oh-so-earnest.

Not interested.
I hope there’s much more to Jolie’s performance…
Malkovich looks good.
FYI, I think this trailer is captivating. I’m sold. And there’s nothing about it that makes it seem like derivative Eastwood…I’ve heard it’s quite the creepy endeavor and this look at the film (finally) reveals that it could be a hell of a flick.
That trailer sure has a killer opening. It looks and feels great to me. Gonna see it in a month orso!
Kris, what do you mean that the trailer lifted the score?
Liz
I agree with Kris. I am incredibly excited for this movie, and that trailer just solidified my expectations.

Wait Kris, do you mean lifted any part of the score or just that one part (unless you’re being sarcastic)? Because both Peter Jackson’s King Kong and the Wachowski’s V for Vendetta used the Myotis theme from Batman Begins in their trailers.

it looks good. love malkovich. like angelina. she looked good. i absolutely hate how the throwing of kitchen items becomes the “i’m mad as hell” of the creativity-lackng film tho. gimme a break. spacey (american beauty) is the only person who has ever effectively thrown a plate.
I think this looks incredible myself. Jolie looks great, but I think Malkovich will steal the show.
And, Kris, it isn’t just the beginning of the trailer. The score is used throughout.

Jolie is an underrated actress because of her tabloid overexposure. I loved her subtle and powerful performance in A Mighty Heart. She should have been nominated for an Oscar. She was also great in Girl Interrupted, Gia, George Wallace, Playing By Heart, Pushing Tin, The Good Shepherd, Foxfire, The Fever, and The Bone Collector. She is like Hilary Swank. You need a great director to get the best out of her.

What is the song that is played at the middle to end of the trailer?

Back on what game, precisely, JAB? ;)

Anyone catch the usage of the “Batman Begins” score at the beginning, by the way? I think this is the first time a trailer has lifted the score.
Fantastic trailer and Jolie should get a nod for this.
“I want my son back!”
I’m so there.
Anyone think we’ll see Jolie smash that plate as many times this award season as we saw Spacek do the same in early ’02?
