New ‘The Road’ trailer

A vast improvement on the tonally misjudged first effort, though it gives in to bombast halfway through. I wonder if it’ll be enough to sell this prickly package — it’s always hard to judge trailers when you’ve already seen the film at hand, particularly if said film didn’t really work for you anyway. Is this getting you in line?

While I think it’s a bit better than the last trailer, they still attempt to flash a pinch of the “news footage” and the music at the end is so massive and gross. Also, there’s something wrong with some of the images I think. Anyways, shit trailer. They really do not know how to market this thing.

I personally loved the film, the trailer is just okay.

I saw the film Wednesday night at Austin Film Festival. For me, it was truly incredible, and I imagine it will actually do pretty well in the awards season post-release. As far as trailers go, its just not a film that is easy to market. You can’t tell people “Imagine the worst thing you’ve ever gone through and multiply it times a thousand and you “The Road’, enjoy!”

I kind of a little bit loved the last trailer. Whatever that means. This one, not so much. Too much disclosure, and too much goop. I just read the novel last month, which I liked but didn’t flip for, but this does make me even more curious now about the film.

The music sounds familiar from 1:24 till the end. What movie was that from?

Nevermind, guys. It’s from Ransom with music by James Horner. It was also used in the Road to Perdition trailer.

I’m pleased to read some positive comments here, and will most definitely be seeing this as a fan of so much of the personnel involved. I’m afraid that this trailer suffers from one of the same criticisms I’ve heard about the film. When you want silence to ponder, or just to take it all in visually, the music swells.

Trailer? I don’t need no steeenking trailer, lol. I’ve been in line for this movie ever since I read the book. I first envisioned Guy Pearce in the role but Viggo looks to be fine as well. Can’t wait.

Cormac McCarthy and John Hillcoat had me in line a long time ago.

I can’t tell you how excited I am to see so many people excited to see the film. I really think it has the potential go a long ways, even if it didn’t work for you personally Kris. :) As always when such differences come up, we’ll just have to agree to disagree. And my condolences go out to you and your family Kris, I know what it’s like to lose a grandmother. You’ll be in my prayers.

Kevin: It’s Guy, not Kris. (Though we pretty much have the same opinion of the film.) Anyway, your condolences are much appreciated, I’m sure.

While they could’ve done a better music edit during the trailer (I like the track, but the little repeat thing it did annoyed me). However, I saw this at Telluride and thought it was one of the best of the year. A truly powerful and moving film. The entire cast is brilliant and I think it’s Viggo’s best performance.

Can’t say I really like the music choice in this. Doesn’t sound like something that would be by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.

Such a shame they weren’t nominated for Jesse James. Easily one of my favorite scores of the decade.

This trailer is a definite improvement, though I think the horns at the end are kind of cheesy.

It looks like they took some of our suggestions into consideration as I see some new scenes from the rough cut I saw back in Feb.
