Yes, another poster — but it’s a good one, and for a film many of us are awaiting rather eagerly, so hopefully you’ll let it slide. The teaser trailer for Tomas Alfredson’s adaptation of John le Carré’s classic spy novel (previously, and very successfully, filmed for television with Alec Guinness in 1979) debuted to a warm response a few weeks ago, and this tastefully sober one-sheet, playing up the more cerebral qualities of the material, further supports expectations of a classy package. (Spot the release date, by the way.) Also nice to see Gary Oldman given lone above-the-title billing, despite the presence of supporting names that might currently be more marketable. Full poster, courtesy of Empire, after the cut.

I’m hoping to buy the novel today so I can attack it before the film’s release. That trailer had me very very excited.
Poster looks great!
Really looking forward to seeing Gary Oldman in a leading role. I don’t know when that last happened? And that’s besides the fact that the trailer looked fantastic, and this is as equally tasteful poster.
Excited.
Not wholly original, but a lot of work went into it, and I like it.
Why do I have a feeling this will be my alley, but not the Academy’s? If the Academy is still head over heels for films featuring established British actors like this or Harry Potter, we might have some exciting flicks nominated for BP.
I’ve got to admit that everything I see about this movie makes me more and more unreasonably giddy.
This is as good a time as any to point out that we Brits are getting the film over two months ahead of the US. Roll on September.
I hate you a little bit right now, Guy.
Grrrrrrr, Guy. haha
And Tintin hits the UK two months early, too. Sigh.
But Tintin doesn’t make me hate Guy even a little bit.
Love it
Ha.
What about the rest of Europe? Will it hit here too first?
Oh my god… Talk about ridiculous . Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy will be hitting Denmark in… March 2012! Thank god I’m moving to Seattle.
That’s nothing. Both of you, brits & unitedstatians, will be getting these films at least a month ahead of us southamericans.
:( sigh
Regardless, nice poster, though I can’t help but reading “smiley” under his eye! It’s far more noticeable amidst the array of numbers than the blurry red ones below!
“Smiley” is the Oldman character’s name, so that’s appropriate enough.
Yeah*, but out of context looks a bit silly for those unfamiliar with the novel or the tv series.
*honestly, I had to google it up. Embarrassing, I know… :(
Guy: I thought you were South African. “. . . we Brits . . .”
This cast simply blows me away. I really hope this works because few actors are as overdue as Oldman. He may cringe but still hold that his Sid Vicious is one of the greatest performances on film. (What’s Chloe Webb up to these days???)
Frank Lee: Was referring casually to British residents. But I have a British father, a British passport and have lived in the UK for nearly seven years, so I feel comfortable identifying as both British and South African.
