It must be tricky to pull off a sub-title for a franchise that already features a colon, but anyway, this is a terrible trailer. It’s aimed at the “Fast Five” crowd, what with the glitz and Eminem, which immediately cheeses down the series (a series I kind of dig, to be honest), and that’s before we get to the terrible structure (What’s with the random Renner plot point beat?). And nothing about this seems to indicate that an artist like Brad Bird is at the wheel, but whatever. That’s marketing for you. Check out the trailer for “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” at Yahoo! Movies by clicking the image below or watch an embed after the jump.

Great trailer. Loving the team aspect. Eminem makes everything look cooler.
lol
I’d blame the marketing, but as far as the film goes, it doesn’t look that bad. Of course we still have very little idea what exactly is going on as of yet. It’s a teaser, so there’s no expectation of miracles just yet. All the same, there quite a bit of flash and flair in this one. Everything I don’t like about this trailer has to do with structure. The actual film looks kind of exciting.
I’ll see this because of Brad Bird and the supporting cast. Certainly not Fast Five worthy.
I’ll be honest – I’m eager to check it out only for Brad Bird. I don’t know how he’ll perform away from animation… but if it’s successful, I wonder if it’ll have some kind of impact on Pixar.
I’m also anxious to check out Renner. He’s a cool bro. But aside from them, I don’t mind much about the M:I franchise, save for the Clayton/Mullen Jr. theme song.
You’re crazy, Kris. This trailer is fantastic.
Some of the shots looked great, but I agree; the editing wasn’t that good. I will check out for Brad Bird.
After seeing all of transformers 3 today, this trailer was much more entertaining and satisfying than the afforementioned sequel. This is the kind of “mindless summer action film that’s all craft and no substnace of feeling” that I think would be a good time at the movies. Unlike the flick mentioned above which needed instructions for projectionists so it wouldn’t be as unbearable as it could have been. Just my thought.
It’s shit, Chad. Lowest common denominator. This is how it’s done:

Same level of octane/glamor/testosterone, but with, you know, SOME level of editorial integrity.
I honestly don’t see much of a difference. Limp Bizkit vs. Eminem. Tom Wilkinson set up vs. Anthony Hopkins set up. Car crashes vs. Motorcycle crashes. The newer one is just cut faster.
There really isn’t a difference. The editing isn’t bad in the slightest. Besides, all that matters is the footage itself which looks great.
The Hopkins stuff is woven nicely rather than offered as a wink at the beginning. Limp Bizkit did the track for the movie so it doesn’t feel like an arbitrary grab. And crashes will be there, but it’s all about the balance.
I’m sure an editor would cringe, but hey, if you guys liked the trailer…
Nevertheless, can’t wait to see it.
No Ving Rhames?
The De Palma one was really good. The other two…meh.
(And here’s hoping there’s at least one money shot left to be shown after that spasm.)
I just want this to come out, so Brad can get the live action thing out of his system and get back to an Incredibles sequel
I love the first one but barely remember 2 and 3.
In fact I completely forgot Thandie Newton was in 2. Just watching the trailer for 2 felt like I was watching a preview of a movie I have never seen.
And that Limp Bizkit MI song is MUCH better than whatever Eminem song they are playing and I like Eminem, or at least his first few albums.
As badly edited as the trailer is, it still made me want to see the movie.
Dude, this trailer is awesome! And Kris, are you saying you don’t like Fast Five?
You post a trailer for this but not for “Brave?”
Am not a huge fan of this trailer (it looks like every other summer action movie ever made, nothing special), but considering the talent behind the camera (Brad Bird directing, Robert Elswit as cinematographer, Michael Giacchino on score, etc) I’m mucho excited for this.
Kris is clearly a closet Limp Bizkit fan. He’s probably been listening to their latest album, Hot Cobra, which was released today.
The “Brandt, who are you REALLY?” bit is laughable and makes the trailer come to a full stop. You just sit there “huh? – okay moving on, I guess.” Couldn’t they find any other way of showing that this character is worth keeping an eye on/watch out for? Do we really need to not trust the second lead in the film before even seing it?
Enjoy every film in this series, and this looks like it could possibly be the best yet. Rather excited. Brad Bird, and so on.
I thought trailer was pretty good…
I like what I see.
@spirithunter – I can think of much worthier things for Brad Bird’s time to be spent on than a sequel to one of the lower tier Pixar efforts.
Where’s Luther Stickell?
Rhames is in it. But more importantly, JOSH FUCKING HOLLOWAY. The best thing about LOST, IN THE MOVIES. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
The music is awful in this trailer. Why rap? Goddamnit! Another action movie geared toward morons.
I agree %100 with the post. This is a bad trailer. It offers nothing new to the franchise, nothing new to action movies. Here’s hoping the next trailer is better. Remember how cool the MI:3 trailer was, opening on Phillip K Haufman.
