    Yeah, it’s definitely crazy time.

Are they still planning on the PG-13 version?

Like I said in the box-office column, this almost made me vomit.

I cannot wait until this Oscar season is over so I never have to hear about The King’s Speech again. It’s a film with a solid beginning and ending, but has a middle section that has absolutely no idea what to do with itself. It’s painful to sit through.

  6. Andrej Avatar

Oh, TKS… you were going classy. Why do you want to be this week’s Melissa Leo?

These are genuine audience reactions not the psycho babble pseudo-intellectual bs spewed by some self-proclaimed film gurus on certain sites. Believe it or not, real people say things like “this movie reminds us that we are all human.”

People castigate the Oscars for being out of touch but now that we have a movie moving both the critics and the audience, people are still complaining. *Kanye shrug*

Long live the King. Harvey Weinstein will be snatching the wigs of your favorite movies on Oscar night. Mentally prepare yourself because it is going to happen.

So much for no one is going to remember The King’s Speech 10 years from now argument LMAO!!!!

I’m a huge fan of the movie, but I didn’t like this trailer one bit.

This reminds me of those interviews they use to do with audience members about ten years ago. So tacky.

Don’t think I saw one black person interviewed. Surprised that didn’t outrage Afrika. By the way, you could probably interview people and find positive reactions to Jackass 3D, that doesn’t mean it deserves best picutre.

Too much talky talk. Not enough young people. They were all 30+ so it doesn’t really expand over every generation or whatever they said.

  11. Loyal Avatar

It reminded me of something Heartland Truly Moving Pictures would do.

But it’s not a huge deal. As Spider-Man would say “everybody gets one.”

I found the movie to be perfectly average, not best picture worthy but still a really well acted and well written film.
I found this trailer to be awful, I saw it last night on tv and couldn’t believe they had taken it this far. I’m not gonna criticize the lines the people say, I just am criticizing whoever thought this was a good idea.

and were you outraged by the lack of Chinese people and Australians? give it a rest

It’s funny now people want to crucify America for falling in love with a movie critics also loved. What is tacky about audience reactions? I guess in this bizarre twitter/facebook world where human interaction is repressed in favor of keyboard and illusions, real emotional responses from real people is a bad thing. Ya’ll are too much.

    LONG LIVE THE KING

  15. Drew Avatar
    Drew

The idea of it is tacky and frankly, it’s pointless. Like I said you could find these reactions for any movie, regardless of acclaim and it would still seem ridiculous.

Don’t talk about impersonal responses when you’re on a comment forum. You’re no more an upset troll here than you were at awards daily. All you did was bitch about ageism, sexism, racism etc. you are the one who needs to give yourself a rest.

I second what Andrej said. TKS campaign was so classy and then they give us this? Disgusting. At the very least they could’ve made it 30 seconds shorter.

Overkill is way too kind. This one makes all Harvey’s previous hijackings seem barely a blip. Too bad the mediocrity of all aspects of this movie overshadow the one exceptional one: Colin Firth’s performance. Other than that, it is Masterpiece Theatah ad nauseum.

  20. Kevin K. Avatar

Can we PLEASE for the love of God use the ban-hammer just this once? Kris? Guy? Please?!

  21. Jim T Avatar

I can understand why audiences loved it but I just don’t get the critics’ reaction.
Did they appreciate that it was not overly sentimental?
Many cliches adequately combined. That’s what I saw.

  22. tom Avatar

I was actually thinking based on last week’s ad (which wasn’t as nauseating as this one, but headed that direction) that Harvey doesn’t care if a significant portion of the populace ends up despising his film, as long as he can get that big-enough slice of AMPAS to vote for it and then draw in low-information movie-goers who haven’t seen it yet.

Of course you can assemble this kind of ad about damn near anything. Here in NY we see one about the stage Mary Poppins hourly, despite the fact it got savaged by most critics.

How low can Weinstein go…. Well apparently he hit rock bottom! We know it going to win best picture, but stop rubbing it in our faces, I can’t wait till oscar season over.

  26. Mike_M Avatar

wow that was terrible… was to class your movie down. gross.

@tom yes but at least those are local affiliate commercials that run for 30 sec and play in the market that within a 45 min drive to Broadway… this is a “trailer” for a movie.

  33. Hunter Tremayne Avatar

It makes commercial sense for Harvey to run this ad now. All of the Oscar votes are already in and the picture sailed past the $100m figure this weekend. What’s to lose?

I think there are limits to that thesis. Negativity of the vocal and consistent kind towards TKS seemed to emerge when it had guild success, and in some part because it stood for traditional Oscar bait, but Nolan et. Al negativity comes up with broad discussions, and Awards Season plays less of a role (though it matters).

Well, you know that trailer has nothing to do with next Sunday and everything to do with chasing more millions at the box office. It’s vomitacious, yes, but the Melissa Leo analogy is not so apt.

  43. Jim T Avatar

By the way, B-B-Bertie reminds me of J-J-James from Certified Copy.

    red_wine

I don’t see anything wrong with the trailer.
They want it to be a blockbuster and a must see event movie. Nothing wrong with that. The entire point of advertisement is to get people to see your product. And this WILL work with audiences I think.

  45. Kevin K. Avatar

I don’t find the trailer offensive or anything, just a little over-the-top. But it’s not unheard of. I’ve seen trailers like this dozens of times. They have a goal: get butts in seats.

I’m laughing at reactions here. The commercial is a touch crazy. But I, too, don’t see anything really wrong with it. Grand (verging on ‘too’) advertisement. Nothing bad.

  48. Simone Avatar

As a fan of TKS, I thought this special trailer was fun to watch. Those who simply just don’t like the film, may not like it, and that’s ok. It ain’t for you!

Long live The King’s Speech! :p

“Don’t think I saw one black person interviewed. ”

That’s actually a point of some validity. If nothing else, I think it would have been a stronger trailer if they did.
