Warner Bros. has passed this along this afternoon. Interviews with Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Caine, etc. Way too heavy on the “it’s the bomb!” quotes, though, More content would have been better, but anyway:

Still absolutely shocking and disgusting that Chris Nolan didn’t receive a Best Director nod. The Academy should be strung by their balls and tortured for this atrocity. Nobody deserved the Best Director nod more than Nolan this year. Period. This film was masterfully directed.
Nolan was royally snubbed but at this point that is old news.
WB sure doesn’t know how to campagne for these awards. A mishmash of old material and “this is the shit” quotes. Makes me wonder what a Harvey Weinstein or Scott Rudin could have done with this..
Do voice over guys get paid by the word? If I just quit smoking, maybe I could get in on that.
Pete, I would just say its disappointing. I love Inception and I feel sad Chris still has no nom, but Darren Aronofsky and David Fincher are very deserving. I think gradually wearing away AMPAS’ iconic-ness would be better. But in any case, I agree with Kris, that all the quotes are best left out.
I didn’t like it as much as some of the other inception featurettes.
This is a lost cause for campaigning. Wouldn’t mind though if it helped the flick take original screenplay, art direction, sound editing, and visual effects.
I think VFX is a pretty sure thing, Screenplay is highly unlikely, but the sound awards might be soft and art direction is possible though challenging.
Note how it’s bookended by the “Best Picture of the Year” quotes. Still, it’s a really great film.
It warner bros fault for the demise of inception through the award, they screw up the campaigning, I don’t know why their still campaigning heavily it’s a little to late. I wonder how the Weinstein would have campaigned for inception…..
should win best picture
Well, the votes aren’t in yet… This campaign is late for Best Picture, because that’s pretty much in the bag. However, right now is the best time to beef up the campaign for Original Screenplay (which it won’t win), because the level of that award makes it easier to push for Art Direction (neck and neck with King’s Speech), Cinematography (why isn’t there much talk about Deakins? And Pfister will likely win the ASC), and Score (aided by the fall of The Social Network, but still behind The King’s Speech). Visual Effects was a given… so was Sound Effects Editing, and I think Sound Mixing as well (once again, the fall of The Social Network).
Also more wins in the technical awards means a weakened King’s Speech. (Which I guess only really helps The Social Network for editing and director at this point.)
I feel like the amount of quotes in this makes it ripe for an SNL parody. Jesus.
this movie just reeks of ego…like they only made it to win oscars…didn’t need any of those quotes…we already know he’s a good filmmaker, so stop rubbing it in our face!
I personally feel that all the quotes are necessary, because if there’s something the AMPAS have proven, it’s that they only view Christopher Nolan and his films as summer blockbusters.
…and really? Of all the movies, how does Inception become the one that’s made only to win Oscars? haha.
This is a great campaign ad for the Academy members. It is a traditional format that I think would work best for the voters.
As far as trying to get the actors to vote for this movie, I would have liked to see Marion Cotillard more. She was undoubtedly the best in show from the movie. Having been poorly campaigned for and subsequently snubbed, I could easily see a Tilda Swinton from Michael Clayton scenario.
@Ryan…
First off, he was a shoe-in to get into the Best Pic race b/c of the due-status for dark knight and the increase to 10 slots. He likely would have been nominated as director had there been 10 slots there.
Next, it’s a blockbuster with big visual f/x, a big score, big art direction, big sounds….it was obviously nominated in those categories and actually won in all the big tech categories at the BFCA awards
But I’m glad to say, though the Academy is sucking big a** with nominating this film (Dark Knight was much better and deserved it more — this movie was 3/4 exposition and 1/4 climax), they saw right through it and snubbed it for director/editing!
And haven’t we already seen the dream-within-a-dream thing in a ton of cartoons and sitcoms already? Maybe not on such a grand scale, but it’s not necessarily a new idea that he came up with alone..
kel, your logic fails.
By what you’re saying if anything director/editing should have stayed and screenplay should have been snubbbed.
Although I think Inception is deserving in all those categories. Even though there’s an overflow of quotes from reviews, just watching that trailer and listening to Zimmer’s score gives me the chills.
A big dreamer myself, it really is awesome having a movie that’s as visually engrossing as a dream itself.
“And haven’t we already seen the dream-within-a-dream thing in a ton of cartoons and sitcoms already? Maybe not on such a grand scale, but it’s not necessarily a new idea that he came up with alone..”
No it’s not a new idea as you can perfectly dream within a dream. I’ve experienced countless times dreaming that I wake up and do my regular routines, only to wake up later and go “wtf?”. It’s the way that this is then transfered to the corporate espionage and denial that is the idea.
Truly unique, like nothing i’ve ever seen before. Christopher Nolan certainly covered new ground with this film and wasn’t afraid to leave us hanging with a spectacular ending.
so if i did the same and threw in some dancing cats, it would be something “revolutionary?”
