You might recall the last few years we’ve used AwardsPicks.com’s Oscar pool. The site has changed names and is now Picktainment.com, but it’s pretty much the same interface. We’ve already got this year’s pool up and running, so head on over and make your picks.
I haven’t settled on a way to weight the categories yet, so I’m open to suggestions.

Can you please explain what this is and how the process works?
Should be self-explanatory there, but sign up for an account at picktainment.com, go to the link provided and join the group. Thgen click “View/Edit My Picks” to make your predictions.
Oh, it’s just a ballot site. I thought it had some greater significance. Alright then – thanks for the explanation.
JGL in Dark Knight Rises?
Since it needs to be stated as it’s becoming more of an issue lately, let’s stick to email and/or Twitter (for those of you who follow me) for out-of-the-blue comments that have nothing to do with the topic at hand.
i’d suggest bonus points for song, editing, makeup and all the short categories because i fear the rest are going to be VERY easy to pick
So you want me to tweet you “JGL in Dark Knight Rises?” ???
Maybe IC could use a forum.
A forum would be a good way to go (I’ve considered it) but point being, I’d like to keep threads on track more than we’ve been doing lately. No biggie. Just wanting to focus a bit.
And I meant using email or Twitter if there is a news item you think needs addressing. It’s just cleaner. Maybe I’m being anal.
I didn’t necessarily think this news item/rumor needed its own entry, it obviously does not but I wanted to see some takes on it from people here.
If not a forum then perhaps a daily cinejabber would suffice. I know personally I have a lot of random and out of the blue comments but I am not going back to Saturday’s cinejabber on a Tuesday to post them.
I’m also pretty sure you don’t want me e-mailing and tweeting you lol.
My extensive preparation for the Oscar Pool led to this unexpected set of predictions: The King’s Speech, The King’s Speech, The King’s Speech, Natalie Portman, The King’s Speech, The King’s Speech, Christian Bale, The King’s Speech, The King’s Speech, Banksy, The King’s Speech, The King’s Speech, Aaron Sorkin, The King’s Speech and… The King’s Speech!
Crap. Can’t decide if I should go with what I want or with what I’ll know which one will win. :(
I’ll complete this tomorrow.
I would give more points for «Foreign language film» as it is always tough to predict, «Best sound», «Best Director» and «Best costume design».
I would add best song, but it’s just not fair…as it will clearly be a guess!
with Javier bardem getting nominated for best actor, I’d say Biutiful has a pretty good chance of picking up the oscar.
Cinematography, Makeup, and Short Animated?
Thanks for putting this up Kris!
I would suggest changing the weighting of the categories to give more points to the more difficult ones: Documentary, Foreign, the Shorts, some of the techs. True, Acting, Directing, Picture are the most central categories, but they are pretty easy to predict if you follow the season (which we all do). I say you’d get a better picture of who has the best instincts if you emphasize those toughies.
Last year, any person who called “The New Tenants” as the Live Action Short winner should have rightfully won any Oscar pool.
I disagree with the idea of weighting differently for various categories – in the past I’ve lost contests while having the most correct predictions but missing one which was weighted more heavily. It’s a bitch to get all the short cats correct but lose to somebody who flat out guessed a supporting actress upset…
Kris – I have an account but no link. I think in the past I may have been part of a different blogsite’s pool but I’d much rather be associated with your site…
I did it. Fun times.
“Last year, any person who called “The New Tenants” as the Live Action Short winner should have rightfully won any Oscar pool.”
That was the only one of the short categories I did pick correctly last year. The Last Truck and A Matter of Loaf and Death being my wrong predictions in the other 2.
Definitely keep the discussion going on weighting because we’ll have to agree on something.
