Fancy this timing, I’ll finally be getting around to “I Live You Phillip Morris” later this afternoon.  Today, via Entertainment Weekly’s Pop Watch blog, we get our first look at the poster.  The film stars Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor and is set for release December 3.  Check out the full image after the jump.

Wow, I can’t believe this won’t be coming out in the US until December, especially since it was released over the summer in Mexico (which is where I saw it). It’s a weird movie, but definitely worth a look. Ewan McGregor is amazing in it, probably the best thing about it, although Jim Carrey is pretty good in it too (I preferred him in Eternal Sunshine and The Truman Show, but it’s still a worthy effort). I’d like to see what you think Kris.

Saw this back in March. Fun movie. Carrey was fantastic in it.

Good movie, actually pretty Oscar-y. It’s a lot like Catch Me if You Can.

Kind-of loved it. Agree with the Catch Me if You Can comparison, but don’t think it’s Oscar-y at all. Any film where one of the biggest laugh lines is “Cum in my ass!” probably won’t cross over to the AMPAS crowd…

It’s a great movie, complex, funny and subtly heartbreaking. McGregor and Carrey are both amazing and deserve oscar nod for theri roles.

Wow, pretty fantastic poster. I’ve been on the fence with this one (the fact that its release date kept getting moved made me assume the finished product was sub-par), but these “Catch Me if You Can” comparisons have intrigued me.

I saw this in the Philippines of all places. I thought it was a bit boring and I never felt any chemistry between Carrey and McGregor.

I have zero interest in this movie, the trailer didn’t help much and neither does the poster.

Along with “Four Lions”, you guys are getting two of the funniest movies in years within a stone’s throw of each other.

I also agree that the Catch Me if you Can comparisons make no sense. Yes, Carrey is on the run and escapes a lot whenever he’s caught or almost caught, but common, don’t insult Catch Me if You Can like that.

I don’t know if I mentioned it here, but my reaction to Carrey was like seeing Me Myself and Irene all over again. It’s that same performance. (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just that it’s nothing new like people are saying).

If there’s little competition and because they love Carrey, the Globes will eat this up. But Oscars for this are not coming and definitely not deserved. The movie is too weird for it’s own good.

Well the movie was fantastic. Probably Carrey’s best work.

Yeah the movie was really funny. I don’t think it will do well at the box office though

Carrey was his usual self. It’s a very black comedy, and Carrey can’t resist falling into his physical comedy schtick, even when it seems out of place. A lot of shouting and expreme body movements distract from his more tender scenes, so all in all it doesn’t feel like a complete performance. It seems like he portrays different people in different scenes.

McGregor gives the heartbreaking performance of the two and could actually land a Supporting Actor nomination, but somehow I just don’t see this as an Academy film at all. It doubt it has any chances of getting nominated for anything. It’s not a “classy” film like Catch Me If You Can. It’s a mix of black comedy, broad comedy, slapstick comedy, tender drama, a love story. It’s all over the place and the Academy (being mostly ‘old’) won’t respond to it.

But if the critics get behind McGregor, he is the only nomination possibility in my book.

Not to mention the gay theme and the rather graphic love/sex scenes in the film. This is not the Academy’s cup of tea.

Carrey’s best work you say, Kris? If it’s as good as his performances in The Truman Show and especially Eternal Sunshine then I am totally on board, although I find it very tough for him to top the ladder.

First weekend of December is generally considered dumping ground. Don’t expect this to make much of any splash.

Why was this released in the UK ages ago? I liked it but in no way shape or form is it awards-worthy.
