Thank you for directing the greatest installment of the Star Wars saga. You will be sorely missed.

Empire was such a monumental part of my childhood. Thank you Irvin Kershner, and farewell…

Funny, I was just watching it last night on Spike. I think my friend said like Lucas’ least favorite was Empire. Crazy. Just crazy. The lightsaber battle between Luke and Darth is the best cinematic moment of the series.

He may not be in the pantheon of great directors, but he nevertheless directed the greatest Star Wars film, and for that he’ll always be appreciated.

Thank you for directing Robocop 2 (1990). I say there are only three things good that ever came from Texas, the first two of the three are Robocop (1987) and Robocop 2, the third being Beyonce. I wasn’t allowed to see Robocop 2 in theatrically, so my brother and I theater hopped in the middle of the picture when Murphy unplugs himself, stands and begins matching onward outside to electrocute himself to remove all the new directives Dr. Faxx has given him. Eventually so the picture on home video to both shock and delight with the final product. I own a VHS cassette, and two Region 1 DVDs and I’m dissatisfied with both video transfers.
Hey now, I’m from Texas, back off. In any case, this is indeed a sad day. Kershner may not have become part of the pantheon of great directors, but this film is certainly a historic one. Sad to see him go. RIP friend, you will be missed.

Wow, this is pretty bad. Empire is easily my favorite of the Star Wars, and even though he really didn’t direct after that, I still say that’s a great achievement.
@James C I’m guessing it was Lucas’ least favorite because it’s so much better then his.
Lucas put out a statement today mourning the loss of Kershner that seems to contradict your friend’s statement James. He loved what Irvin did with the film.

I’ll be forever grateful to Irvin Kershner for Empire Strikes Back, the best of the 6-episode Star Wars series. I agree it was a great achievement. Star Wars fandom is an integral part of my life.
R.I.P.

Nice piece from Lucas, classy. Very sad that Lucas is the only living original trilogy director left.
