‘Frankie & Alice’ poster

Written by

The Halle Berry starrer “Frankie & Alice” screens tonight and throughout the week in Los Angeles.  And Berry may or may not be a contender in this year’s competitive Best Actress race.  (Dave Karger seems to think she is.)  Regardless, I can’t make the screening tonight, but I’ll catch up with it later in the week.  For now, we have a look at the one-sheet for you.  Check out the full image after the jump.

Wow, between the story and the screenplay there were 8 people working on this. I have a bad feeling about it.

The screenplay looks like it might have had too many cooks in the kitchen so to speak… I will reserve judgements until the film is seen and the word comes out about the quality of the film. The poster is simple, nothing revelatory, but definitely not an offending disaster like The Kings Speech.

I think we shouldn’t underestimate Berry in the best actress category. The Hollywood Reporter critic also saw the film and he called Berry Spellbinding. Also, last week the film was screened for the SAG nomination committee and they gave Berry a standing ovation after the screening.

I saw this in April and have been saying since then she would be nominated. I just can’t picture a performance this incredible being denied. I went in with reservations because this film sounded so absurd, but I was absolutely amazed.

I hate that “the incredible true story” or “an amazing true story” with no semblance of what that story is is common for taglines nowadays.

@Alex – Isn’t that the dad of the guy who plays that vampire on HBO? Or is that the Sarsgaard Sars Guard guy?

Or Bootstrap Bill? Or the guy that played the math guy in that movie with those Affleck and Damon guys?

Sorry, I can’t shake off that Cat Woman image from my mind. The Best Actress race is already very crowded anyway so sorry Halle, you’ve been eliminated from the race.

As much as I can forgive Halle Berry for Catwoman (I saw Monsters Ball after Catwoman), I have to agree with you Mimi

    @Dunhouse

He’s been in a lot of well known films. I’m not denying it.

I just think putting his name next to Halle Berry’s as male lead is a bit odd. I can’t put my finger on it though.

Alex, I say it’s about damn time. Skarsgard’s a fantastic actor who’s long overdue for this kind of attention.

As for Berry, we’ll see. If she gets a nod over Julianne Moore, she better be damn incredible.

Am I lone voice crying – If you’re talking overdue Oscars, where in hell is Julianne Moore’s???

I feel like Moore is the Peter O’Toole. Nommed forever, never the “best” in a year. People talk about 2002 being her best (or best shot).

I had her 3rd in both Actress and Supp. Actress that year. Again, like O’Toole … excellence, but never THE winning performance.

This seems to be the case with her (at least, with AMPAS).

JONNY COME LATELY, SHE MAY BE THE WORST ACTRESS AROUND, THEY FEEL PITY FOR HER BECAUSE SHE IS BLACK, BUT THE TRUTH IS HALLE NEVER COULD ACT AND PEOPLE IN HOLLYWOOD ARE SAYING IT BEHIND HER BACK. STEP ASIDE.

Most actors and actresses are only as good as the script and the director, if either of those is lackluster, no matter how good an actor you are, more than likely the film is gonna suck.Anybody on here deny that female actors have lamented good scripts forever? So what does that tell you about the scripts black actresses get? Catwoman was a joke because of the French director…the French have an odd view of satire vs American filmgoer tastes. I would wait for the performance, and let that be the guide. But let’s just remember good looking women piss off a lot of people simplybecause of how they look. I say Bravo to Halle for hanging in there…it has never been easy for a beautiful woman in a business where beauty is a dime a dozen and everyone thinks of beautiful as arm candy. I think at 44 she is going to knock it out o fthe ball park. She may not win the oscar, but I think she will have deserved an Oscar nomination.

Halle is a FINE and very capable actor. She has to fight against the fact that everyone thinks she’s so gorgeous. What a strange predicament for one to have to deal with. And as an actor of color the good roles are few and far between. ( I know the race argument bothers people but trust me..we arent just “making it up” for the hell of it..its just the truth unfortunately) I think its fair for everyone to WAIT and judge the movie after it is viewed.

And P.S. Interesting how people can’t seem to let go of the “Catwoman thing” that was 7 years ago.. but let it have been her best role to date and people would be saying ” she hasnt made a good film in 7 years” Ass backwards how that works? :-/

Halle Berry is an excellent actress. Frankie and Alice, which I’ve seen, is a testament to her superior acting ability. Other comments denying her obvious talent are ill founded and unwarranted.

Halle is great. She gave a top-notch performance in Monster’s Ball and has demonstrated her wonderful talent again in Frankie and Alice, a movie I have seen and suggest that all of you who doubt her abilities especially go out and see it.

Why are we still talking about Catwoman? Which actor hasn’t had a bad film? The fact is that she has had many more great movies than mediocre ones, including Monster’s Ball, Introducing Dorthy Dandrigde, Losing Isaiah, to name just a few.
