Fear and Desire is so bad. I really hope it does not happen.

Good to know Williams and Gosling are so dedicated. :)

The “Fear and Desire” DVD is apparently in negotiations. I attended a screening of the film a couple of weeks ago in Hollywood, and a lady from George Eastman House (who own the the 35mm print of the film) confirmed as much, but made note that the process could be a slow and arduous one. So yeah, may be a while yet.

Why would Anne criticize another writer’s opinion?

    You’d have to ask her.

Gotta say, though I’m not sure I know why the movie’s plot is “offensive” to O’Hehir, and I wouldn’t be nearly as negative if I wrote such a review, I pretty much agree with him.

What’s more, I found Anne Thompson’s rebuttal underdeveloped, either by choice (two paragraphs, one of which is nearly just a big quote of the Salon review) or by happenstance.

Salon is a glorified gossip rag anyway. Who ever cared what they thought?

    Anne does, apparently.

I’m not sure exactly what Anne’s beef with O’Hehir is, but I really dislike this increasingly prevalent blogger habit of accusing a critic of contrarianism simply because his views don’t line up with those of the majority.

@Guy I agree with you to the extent that your complaints don’t perpetuate this cycle of increasing tediousness.

    So far we have:
    Consensus
    Tedious Dissenter
    Tedious Complaints of Contrariness
Tedious Complaints of Complaints of Contrariness
And now me, who’s tediously complaining of complaints of complaints of contrariness

This whole thing is very tedious.
