‘The Tourist’ trailer

Posted by · 10:01 am · September 15th, 2010

Sony recently announced a December release date for Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s English language debut “The Tourist,” starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. It’s likely o be a commercial play (that will nevertheless be an SEO dream for webmasters), but the recently debuted trailer showcases a delightful performance from Depp. Check it out at Yahoo! Movies by clicking the image below or watch an embed after the jump.  (Believe it or not there was actually a press release issued Monday announcing the upcoming launch of this trailer.  Soon enough it’ll be the press release announcing the press release.)

Holy crap! What a great trailer. I thought Angelina Jolie looked fantastic in “Salt,” but she tops herself here. Memo to flimmakers everywhere: Film is a visual medium.

Interesting, not sure how I feel. Def a different performance for Depp, for Jolie it looks like all her other action-y films.

All I can think of when I watch Depp in this is Eddie Vedder, not just by appearance but voice and even mannerisms.

Hm. Jolie looks like something the Sixties coughed up here. Not sure that’s a look that works for her…

Wow! This looks just like a modern Hitchcock film.

The Lives of Others was a tough act to follow, but Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck looks to be one versatile director. Great trailer and Jolie looks better here than in Salt.

Looks lame and Angelina still can’t do accents. Also, since this isn’t a Tim Burton film or a Disney film I was hoping that Depp would play a normal role but he’s become such a caricature that he’s quirky even in his more commercial/traditional films.

    Blah.

Not a score but rather Muse – Map of The Problematique.

Great song from a great album and works very well in movie trailers apparently.

Not a particularly good trailer, but it could be a decent romp at the movies given the talent involved. It didn’t dash any expectations anyway.

Does anyone else feel like this should’ve been released in the summer?

This doesn’t seem to have any awards prospects about it.

So only films going for awards should be released in the winter? Winter is a huge time for the box office as well as the summer.

I can’t say that I’m terribly impressed. And…why does Jolie have that badly phony British accent?

    @ Matthew Starr:

No, that’s not what I was saying, it just seems like a film that would come out in the summer and not really one for winter.

I had forgtotten this is direscted by the Lives of Others helmer so i’m sorry to say that I think this is going to bore me and the Academy as well. Jolie and Depp seem adequate but I saw nothing impressive. And I’m really not in the mood for a “fun” film like this seems to be.

    Obviously, it’s just a trailer. Let’s see…

Had no idea this was a comedy. Looks very conventional if not altogether terrible. I’ll put it on the might-watch-someday list.

It Looks alike a sequel of “knight&day”(nothing than fun) but not an Oscar contender and what happened to Depp’s face, his accent or her accent!

I never understood why this was considered awards material – and I don’t just refer to this site. It looks… not entirely bad but not good either. Depp could work, Jolie looks (and sounds) weird and the choice of music seems unfitting.

But I wanted to play Tomb Raider II again. That’s what this trailer achieved.

Looks like Donnersmarck sold out. Any director could’ve done this. However, I am getting a slight “Duplicity” vide from this. I don’t know why.

Does anyone else agree that Depp looks so very much like Barry Gibb in this film?

This looks like Duplicity, but worst, because Duplicity’s trailer looked like crap but the film actually turned out to be quite good with enjoyable performances and a smart script. This just looks like it is going to be a bad film.

    Those accents are quite awful.

OMG. Jolie must now surely seal her place amongst the pantheon of the greatest screen beauties ever. She looks almost as great as Liz Taylor in her prime. This is probably the most earth-shatteringly gorgeous she has ever looked. <3 No wonder in the trailer itself she was billed before Johnny Depp.

What has me intrigued is the script. You have 2 Oscar winning writers along with an Oscar winning film-maker who wrote a magnificent screenplay in Lives Of Others (a personal favorite).

But yeah this looks like a big budget high gloss star driven blockbuster rather than a solemn grave drama. I was honestly expecting something more along the lines of Chinatown.

@40Jonathan Spuij: “accents which are fine; and

@25 Dragaon: “ohh ignorant people. Whats wrong with her accent? I am English and the accent is perfect.” Just because you’re English doesn’t mean you know what you’re talking about , or maybe people don’t take your word that you’re English.

Maybe people will take this British tabloid’s word on it (I wouldn’t trust them on anything else): “Ange has adopted a pretty decent English accent.”

Whomever said Angelina’s English accent was “perfect” – or even “pretty decent” – needs their ears cleaning out. I am English, an an actor who specializes in English dialects, and I have never heard such an atrocious attempt. It makes me cringe whenever I see this trailer! Oh Johnny Depp, what were you thinking making this film?????
